Should Warren Central ever lose to Highlands?

Featured Replies

Noway! I will play the underdog role here. I guess the only way Highlands wins is to outsmart WC but Highlands certainly isn't going to outplay WC. According to Coach Feggins, WC is way too athletic for Highlands. Kind of a slap in the face to programs like Louisville Central & Cincinnati Withrow who Highlands has played and beat from time to time. I would bet you would never hear Centrals coach say what Coach Feggins is preaching. Yep I will go with the Coach Speak scenario.

Agree! Coach Speak. Yeah!

How in the world do you know this?

Frankly, I think Warren Central has taken a shot in the dark on a guy that has no high school coaching experience and is just hoping it works out. They were enamored with him because he has been a "college coach". If this shot in the dark fails, it will set Warren Central Football back 5 years.

Feggins said that about Highlands because his son played at Highlands and that is the only team in KY he's familiar with. He's never coached a day in his life in the state of KY, much less south central Ky. He probably had no clue when he said it that there is a team 2 miles away from where his press conference was held that's won 44 straight. That's the team he needs to be focused on, not Highlands.

We should be so lucky. Central was in a better place in 2009 than they are today. At least then we didn't have the murky future at lower levels.

Sarcasm aside, I think it's more dire than that if this fails. My #1 fear remains that he has never coached anywhere for longer than 4 years, and several less than that. Central cannot afford that. With the way the school is treated by its own district, this is a watershed moment for the program. If they don't perform well and fix the feeder system now, I feel like we're talking longer than a decade to fix Central, if not longer.

Lol at WC being a large county school. There's under 1000 kids there! It's the 4th biggest HS in Warren County, only Warren East has a smaller student population.

And Warren East has more males. Five years ago Warren Central had the second largest school in the city-county behind Greenwood. Thanks to South Warren and brilliant districting decisions by our board, Central is now the fourth largest and fifth by male enrollment, which is really what matters for this topic. And it will only continue to get worse.

On the actual topic, it's coach speak. Everyone knows its coach speak. How you take it really just depends on your feelings about coach speak. I believe it is key that Central, or any team for that matter, believe that they should win games against the likes of Highlands and Bowling Green. It is just a single cog of a much larger process, but you absolutely need to enter with that belief. I don't have a problem with him saying what he did. He probably (definitely) should have expressed it in a more private setting. Even if I hadn't posted the video of it, that's probably too large a statement that someone wouldn't have put it out there that it was said.

Large county schools should be world beaters is a myth. It's not about your schools numbers as much as it is about the total potential pool your schools numbers come from. Henderson had 1000 boys from a potential pool of 1000 boys. I'd rather have 500 boys to field a team from that came from a potential pool of 5000 boys.

From a purely statistical perspective, you are right on the money. The same would hold true with academics as well as athletics.

Without a doubt. There's obviously always exceptions but as a general rule...

Coachspeak. Since when has Warren Central ever been at Highlands' level? And like Blockbuster said, Central needs to focus on beating BG and not Highlands.

I could assemble a better board than the circus that goes on here. Bunch of dancing bears I tell ya. Couldn't tell a you know what from a hole in the ground.

Early 90s, before Greenwood came along.

This is a riduculous topic. WC isn't even that much bigger of a school than Highlands. In the next realignment, WC is moving down to 4a. They both should be a 4a school according to the last 4 year average. With the addition of SWarren, WCs enrollment has been decreasing the past few years. Why shouldn't Highlands be able to beat them?

Highlands has no chance, they might as well just stay at home and rest up for the playoffs...:thumb:

Think they'll still put out their JV like last year?

I think that Warren Central's new coach makes an interesting set of comments when he basically alludes to the premise that Warren Central should have better players than a place like Highlands and therefore shouldn't lose to them.

Perhaps some background checking would have served him well. Shall we count the number of DI-A signed kids that the two schools have had in the last ten years?

Central: 1, possibly 2 - Lonell Dewalt (2003)...Emit Smith may sign DI-A at the end of this year.

Highlands: A lot more than 1 or 2, in fact, too many for me to recall them all.

In fact, for all of Central's great players that he is counting on unleashing on Highlands, they are fourth in their own county for producing major College talent. Bowling Green, Warren East, and South Warren have all produced more high level talent than Warren Central in the last decade (or three years in South Warren's case).

Highlands and all other area schools are no doubt shaking in their shoes over all the talented players that Coach Feggins is now going to unleash at Warren Central. There is also the matter of his son, who leaves Highlands to play at Dub C. Clearly a good player, but much like a lot of Warren Central players, he actually (per Rivals.com/Scout.com) holds no DI-A offers.

Case in point, I'm gonna pick Highlands in this match-up. Highlands can easily match Warren Central player for player when it comes to quality high school level players, and then hold the trump card in that they normally have elite level players, something that for the most part Warren Central, does not.

I like what your saying here, but remember BGP has spoken and determined it was just "coach speak"
