Should Warren Central ever lose to Highlands?

Featured Replies

Not really a "Yes" or "no" question. In this context, it is coach speak. But, the premise is valid. Warren Central should beat virtually everyone. Just like Dunbar and Henderson should be among the elite teams in the state. In fact, it could be argued that all the large county schools should be world beaters. Now, this argument is based on population and school size, in reality the larger school does not always win and the justification for my argument that numbers don't matter as much quality of program. Again, it comes down to the importance placed upon the program.

"Should Warren Central ever lose to Highlands?" Yes, and no.

On an even playing field yes WC along with the biggest county schools should. More times than not they should dominate due strictly to a numbers game. The reality is different. Even though it is against the rules on here to point fingers and use that "R" word but that is the reality. Some schools have an advantage by having certain players come and play for them. I'm not saying how it happens and am not using the "R" word but simply stating facts.

So on an even playing field the larger schools should more times than not be the best, reality and because of other circumstances has led to that not being true. Take it any way you want but some schools have an advantage and it's not the student body size either.

Can I just reiterate what someone said earlier...Warren Central, once a huge public school in the late 80's and early 90's, has been split, not once, but TWICE by Greenwood and South Warren and is now a mid-sized school.

In Warren Co. alone, Warren Central in terms of boys, is the 4th smallest of 5 schools.

Just wanted to clear up any misconceptions that Warren Central is a "large" county school.

What is the population in the area now to have that many high schools?

Warren Co. is right around 100k...in 2015, the area schools will be classified as such:

Gwood 5A

BG 5A

South Warren 4A

Warren Central 4A

Warren East 4A

So it is not as though, it's a bunch of 1A and 3A schools scattered around. By the next realignment in 2019, I have little doubt that Gwood and South Warren will both be solidly 6A schools, and BG will likely be one of the biggest 5A schools. East continues to grow and Central continues to shrink.

Not even 500 boys go to Warren Central, not does it even crack the 1,000 enrollment mark.

It's no longer 1991. Damon Hood has long graduated and the school no longer enrolls the amount it did 20+ years ago.

Early 90s, before Greenwood came along.

And even that greatness was short lived.

Yeah, they split the school. It was nice to get the big farm boys to block for the athletic city boys, best of both worlds. With SW coming along, the Rockfield area has been divided and taken even more lineman.

BG has grown so much. Who would have thought that Warren Central would have suffered as a result? I sure wouldn't have.

Probably wouldn't if they didn't keep getting kneecapped by their own board. This process of events was set into motion 25 years ago the way they did the Greenwood split and then accelerated with the South Warren districting. By and large, Warren Central's suffering has been needless. All Warren County schools should be strong, not just two.
