May 3, 201412 yr I really don't ever come to BGP with my grief but this was one of the hardest choices I've ever had to make in my life. My beloved bulldog Butch was just 7, which is below average for a dog's lifespan. Something happened to her in the last 4 months that the vet never really was fully able to track down. She just went so quickly, and last night stopped eating or drinking. I think she knew and that let me know, which I was grateful for. I feel a great well of pain for those who have to do this as part of their job because that experience about cut me off at the knees. Rest peacefully Butch.
May 3, 201412 yr Sorry for your loss, DF. I know it is never easy and I feel your pain. Hang in there.
May 3, 201412 yr I know how you feel. My first dog as an adult was an English Bulldog. They make great companions, and are truly wonderful dogs. Mine was my main source of company for nearly a year while I stayed east waiting for my transfer while the rest of my family moved to Northern KY. Mine had to be put to down a couple of months before his 10th birthday. My dog went very quickly as well. Such a great breed with wonderful personality.
May 3, 201412 yr Tough deal, DF. Never easy to lose a pet...especially one you have spent a lot of time with. Hopefully you will find another good one soon.
May 4, 201412 yr Doing what you did is one of the hardest things to do! I went thru it before and it was every bit as hard as losing a family member. I now have two English Bulldogs and love every moment with them, even the frustrating parts!! My deepest sympathy!
May 4, 201412 yr Author Thank you for the sympathies everyone. They are very much appreciated. It has continued to be a rough day and I expect that it will be rough for a bit.
May 4, 201412 yr If you decide to get another English bulldog, there's a good bulldog rescue, Illinois English Bulldog rescue. They're on Facebook as well.
