Travelers on Shaky Ground With Nike

Featured Replies

It did come up in casual conversation. We were just talking about basketball. Talked a lot about the NBA playoffs, the NCAA tournament too. Turns out we both just like basketball and it was only one small part of the conversation.

I'm not sure what you mean about being a disgruntled parent. I'm not and he's not. I don't have a son that plays basketball and I don't think he does either. He left the organization some years back he said. Not anytime recently that I gather. It was just a conversation that came up as a coincidence that I found interesting.

Last year was the first year for the KY Travelers, I think they were in Tennessee before moving to KY, so how did he quit the KY Travelers some years back??

Well, that'll shake up facts in a hurry.

I have no idea what the truth is here. The Travelers seemed to have reasonable success last year relative to many other teams in the league so I can't see them pulling the plug based on performance. Big improvement over their recent TN years. IMO, they've done really well in their first year in KY.

That said, come on guys. Your focusing on a technicality in your response to the guy that started the thread. The Travelers have been around for several years, whether that be the TN or KY version. That may have reset their geography, but the organization is still the Travelers! While I don't know if any of the things stated are "facts," KY or TN in the fellow's comments doesn't shake up any "facts."

:lol2: OK, a guy makes his virgin post on this board by railing on the highest profile AAU team in the state by parading a chance meeting by a disgruntled former "coach" around as facts.

Nope, nothing fishy about that.:ohbrother:

Do the research. Hoopmania gave the 'facts' I am hearing as well. Three possibilities after this season.

1. KY Travelers stays Nike sponsored.

2. Nike moves to a different KY based AAU organization.

3. Nike pulls out of KY all together.

Everyone always wants to pile on the new guy and come to find out the new guy was on to something.

From a very realiable source, I've heard that the current 16U Manimal team is slated to play in the EYBL league next year for 17U.

Very intriguing.

Help me understand how a disgruntled coach has anything to do with the fact that Nike runs on cycles and they are up for renewal. Where do the dots connect there?

I agree 100%... Everything stated so far is heresay. Travelers proved to be one of the top 8 teams in the Nike EYBL last year, so why would Nike bail on them now? Too many rumers being spread, and too many people jumping on the bandwagon regarding this non-issue...

The program has made the Peach Jam once since the start of the EYBL. They will need another solid season to back that up or they could be in trouble. Remember making the Peach Jam is the only way to lock in your spot for the next season guaranteed. If not it is up to Nike...

This response to my statement makes next to no sense. Just saying.

In my statement, I didn't pile on; I even said that I find it hard to believe given the improvements made this past year - and alluded to the fact that I don't count what he said as fact. The point I made (and that you apparently missed)was that whether someone refers to them as TN or KY was irrelevant as it related to the point being made. Likewise, the fact that the guy is a "virgin" poster means nothing to me. I regularly read posts from plenty of long-time members that are blatantly biased. So, length of membership equates to integrity of comments? I must have missed that in the rules.

Completely agree. Your crazy if you think that's going to happen

Would tend to agree here. Does Manimal even have younger teams that could grow the status of the team? The travelers came in with 2 teams able to pull some higher profile players in the state to play for them.

From the talk last year, Manimal was supposed to put together a 17s and a 15s this year and didn't have enough interest. Whether or not that is true, idk... But, that was the talk at the end of last summer.

Fact not rumor Kenneth is negotiating a contract with Nike at this time. Fact Nike has asked him about Manimal playing EYBL. Fact the reason Manimal did not field 3 teams this year was not because of no interest but because it would have complicated his contract discussions with 3 teams sponsored by Adidas. Fact Nike cares about making money!!! I have it from a reliable source who would make them more Travelers or Kenneth Faried. Go figure.
