March 16, 201412 yr Boy you have really struck a nerve with this thrifty cheap skate of a guy. Being raised by parents of the depression era, I forever have tones of their good sense whispering in my inner ear. I take serious issue with purchasing anything where the profit margin is ridiculous. When attending events where this is the case, I routinely plan ahead and either make sure that I've sufficiently fed myself beforehand, or invent new ways to cleverly sneak in a snack, or my own beverage. On numerous occasions I've foregone drinking anything but water, and locate drinking fountains to refill. It's tempting sometimes when the inviting smells are trying to lure me in, but I just try to keep my head about me and think logically. 99% of the time the offerings are unhealthy anyhow, so by purchasing them, I'm making two mistakes all at once. Nope... just can't bring myself to do it. I answered an online questionnaire presented by the BOK arena at NKU their first year where I suggested that they also include healthy alternatives at their concession stands such as turkey wraps etc... presenting my idea with a "Build it and they will come" logic. Much to my surprise, the next time I attended an event they indeed offered turkey wraps! They were pricey, but in this case at least a healthier choice. Freaked me out as I thought they really must've taken notice of my suggestion. The next time I went there, no turkey wraps. I suppose they were not a big hit as most attendees at events prefer to load up on overpriced high fat, high sodium items. Where's the fun in being healthy anyhow, Right??? One bottle of Miller Lite at a concert at the main stage at the Taft Theater is $7... No Way Hosay!!! All I have to do is think of how much Miller Lite I can get at the store for $7 and it's an instant no-brainer. I'm the $1 bottle of water guy when attending Red's games. I might even tip the water seller an additional buck to encourage him to always be present outside the stadium before games. I'm one of the few that parked on a street and walked every time while attending the 9th Region Tourney at the BOK to avoid additional parking fees. The exercise didn't hurt me as I no doubt needed it. Movie theaters? ... Matinees or the Cheapies only with a book bag filled with my own goodies. Fast food joints? Not the healthiest way to go, but I'm typically the dollar menu guy with a courtesy water. I have my knee jerk standbys on board when out and need a quick refueling. Lee's Famous Recipe 2 Chicken Slider Meal with a side and a drink = $3.71. Krogers Marketplace gourmet lunch $4.99 or $5.99 dinner. Generous entree portion with 2 sides and a roll with a $1 32 oz bottle of zero calorie vitamin water. Excellent value. No tipping either, and for equal to, or better food than you'll find in most high priced restaurants. If I must, at a sit down restaurant I'm the guy studying the menu with a fine tooth comb to find the loophole bargain, and almost always have a water with lemon. It probably sounds draining to live this way, but I'd rather drain my brain looking for the bargain than drain my wallet being the chump who fell for the rip off of a deal. No way... No how.
March 16, 201412 yr Friday night at the USF baseball game, I ordered 2 cheeseburgers, an order of fries, a bottle of water, and a beer. It came to $27.
March 16, 201412 yr Any concession item at a PGA tour event. Didn't want to hear that. I will be in the Ville for the PGA this year. Edited March 17, 201412 yr by True blue (and gold)
March 16, 201412 yr Even though I have the dollars to do so in my pocket I HATE paying for parking. I'll drive around for a while to find it for free. That's why you'll see me parking on Garrard in Covington and walking to the Reds games. Never pay to park.

No how. 1st bolded.....High school concessions are reasonable for the most part, so I have no problem there, but more times than not whenever attending ANY event I carry in my own drink and/or snack. 2nd bolded.....I always look at things this way, NOT HAPPENIN". I shake my head in amazement when people fork over $5.00 for a bottled water at a Bengals game, absurd. 3rd bolded.....I'm right there with you. It reminds me of a saying I heard...."wealthy people aren't wealthy because they make a lot of money, they just know how to keep more of it". But making a lot helps  Even though I have the dollars to do so in my pocket I HATE paying for parking. I'll drive around for a while to find it for free. That's why you'll see me parking on Garrard in Covington and walking to the Reds games. Never pay to park. Count me in this group. I'll drive around until I find that free spot almost everytime, unless there is no alternative. Pains me to pay to park.
March 16, 201412 yr Once in awhile, even those most frugal of us are in situations where we have to pay too much for something, and we have to cringe and bear it. I'm at a soccer tournament and I paid $2 for a banana and $4 for a bottle of water. How about you? What did you pay way too much for but you had to cringe and bear it? $14 for cotton candy at the circus. Call the police, you were robbed.
March 16, 201412 yr I took my father who was in town two years ago to the Reds/Giants playoff game. I asked him if he wanted a couple of coneys at the stadium, he said yes get me two, then quickly halted the order. He said, "does that really say $5 a coney"? No, I wanted be able to enjoy them. Reds lost but we ended up at Pompillo's for a nice dinner.
March 17, 201412 yr I hate to pay for parking, too........Plus, you can get stuck in the lot when the event is over......for example, Freedom Hall and its Circle (or Ring) of Death.
March 17, 201412 yr Didn't want to hear that. I will be in the Ville for the PGA this year. I was there in 1996; a bottle of water was 4 bucks back then. Edited March 17, 201412 yr by True blue (and gold)

March 17, 201412 yr  Call the police, you were robbed. I asked the lady where my jar of Vaseline was, and she gave me a blank stare. Now my kids are asking me what Vaseline is. :isurrender:
March 17, 201412 yr This past month was the highest I've ever had. My wife is calling Duke tomorrow about our bill. Less usage than the prior month but a higher bill.

March 17, 201412 yr Saw gas listed. I gotta go with gas, as I just gotta pay it no choice, so I suffer through it. I'd have to add insurance, especially auto insurance. Way too high if you ask me, but you gotta have it. Cars maintenance and repair in general seems to be a perfect fit for this thread. On the "I know I'm going to overpay but I do it anyway," front. I know I'm going to pay a small fortune for a beer when I go to Riverbend or a Reds game. But I'm not going to deprive myself a drink at an event like this if I want one. I guess they'll bury me with $10 less bucks for everytime I do this, but I can live with that. I know what the prices are going in, and if I can't afford to go, then I won't.
