How close did Rodrick Rhodes come?

Featured Replies

Cordia lost to Hazard in the first round of the 14th Region Tournament. There is no question that the Lions were among the Top 4 in this region but do you realize how close he came to winning the State Tournament this year. Start by admitting that they definitely would have won the region if they still had Hudson. Let's go one step further. The number 2 player in the state of Mississippi, Malik Hines, was at Cordia at the beginning of the school year. At 6'8, and 220 pounds, I insist that these two kids would have put Cordia in a position to win the State.

Cordia has a bunch of seniors this year. It will be interesting to see how Rhodes reloads. If you evaluate how close he was this year it should be fun to see the strategy he employs to win the 14th, and then the state.

BGP would have exploded with outrage if some little mountain school used transfers to win a state title!

Well, only if it's just one or two transfers. Anything more than that and it crosses the line, in some people's minds.

You really want to know how they will reload?

Almost won the state tournament? Didn't win the district. Didn't win a game in the region. Saw him at Christmas tournament at Lexington Catholic. IMO...not convinced they could have won the region but enjoy your Cordia kool aid.

Let's not get carried away here. Even at the start of the year, when they were playing well, Cordia was still losing to good teams. Took losses to Knott Co. Central, Holmes, NCC and even Louisville Male before the first of the year. They were solid, but winning the 14th and making a run at Rupp were FAR from foregone conclusions.

Close as in within proximity of a nuclear weapon.

They were those two players, IMHO.

No one in the 14th wanted to play them in the tourney. It took 49 FT to take them out. Add those 2 players. The recipe was tere, is what I am saying.

Lots of good recipes have been ruined by the wrong ingredients. And some might argue that the chef makes all the difference in taking good food to great.

Discussing that would be a violation of one of the rules on here. :sssh:

Man...most people talk trash when they win. Not after you go 1-2 in the post season. 49 fts? Maybe they should quit fouling. Recipe for disaster is what that is and was. Fourth best team in that region and that is exactly how it played out.

Ever heard the expression,,,If the did not have to stop to pee, he would have caught the rabbit????

STOP! PLEASE STOP! 2 players are world beaters? Losses to Holmes, NCC, Male, and Central and they couldn't get out of their region nor make it to the semis of their region? And not to mention they would have eventually had to play a team the caliber of a Ballard, Trinity, or a Scott Co. C'mon man, at least make to the regional finals before talking about how close a team was to winning a State title.

How close did Rodrick Rhodes come to winning the state tournament? As close as the other 127 coaches who lost in the first round of a regional tournament. But not as close as the 128 coaches whose teams advanced past the first round of the regional tournament.
