Ya'll must not be nearly as important as me.........
I just use my personal phone SSSOOO much and my work phone SSSOOO little. Work phone is a backup and email device for me.

You must have a Jobs special edition my 5s goes for maybe 24 hours lol. Then again you must not run a lot on yours. The battery gets weaker over time, they can only recharge a certain amount of times.

 

Guys, I'm not talking about normal every day use. As much as I use mine I charge it daily. I'm talking about charge it lay it on a table and don't touch it. If you aren't getting more then a few hours out of it your battery is garbage.

Honestly, I'd never be able to test it like I can my work phone.
It seems like if their phones are still on that one of them would have managed to get a message out at some point. This whole thing is bizarre.

 

Remember that the 'ringing' at the originating (caller) end is generated by the local switch, C/O, carrier, etc. Its not the target phone 'ringing'.

 

Behavior on calls may vary between wireless carriers and the originating carrier/local office technology. It also may be impacted by international roaming, etc.

 

If a phone from a passenger is still active and 'online' then the carriers should be able to trace it out and find it. Unless its a satellite phone it needs to be within so many miles (or less) of a tower that is lineline connected. If phones are communicating on the grid then they should be able to find them very quickly. The intellegent parts of the cellphone networ(s) keep lots of information on every phone in range - like SSI (Single Strength Indicator), packet counts, power on, power off, etc.

 

I think the reports of families claiming phones are ringing may be accurate. But if the phones are really on then the authorities should be able to find the approximate location very easily.

I wouldn't be able to either but do know if I have minimal use of it (mostly on the weekends) I don't have to charge it for 2 days or better.

I have the "find iphone" app on my phones. If the phones are on and not on airplane mode they could be found.

That's the way I am. I got a 5 for my work phone and if I just use if for work it last 4-5 days. That's with wifi on and email refreshing.

My understanding is there should have been more than one transponder. And even with an electrical failure the transponders are the last to go if they go at all. The electrical system is extremely robust and built to last with an engine explosion in mid air.

Fully charged, wifi off, apps closed, screen refresh turned off...24 hours, tops.

 

With an excellent signal. Any place with low signal stretch would drain the battery.

If Malaysia really asked the NTSB and FAA for help, there's no way it was hijacked and THEY shot it down... I think we can safely eliminate that conspiracy.

Minimum of 3 transponders due to redundancy on a 777, could have been up to 6. However they can be turned off.

Also so that they can be swapped out, the transponders have a shelf life and after so much time they must be switched out with a re-calibrated unit. Most avionics can be shut down individual so that they can be replaced, rather than shutting down the whole system. A large amount of the time when you shut down the entire flight system, things dont turn back on. Thats why planes have an APU so that they can keep the basics running when not in flight.

Very good chance the Chinese satellite found the wreckage.
