Longest Regional Droughts

Featured Replies

Wouldn't Bellevue (1949) be the longest drought for 9?

It's appearances, not championships. Bellevue made the Ninth Region Tournament back in 2008.

This thread is about making the regional, not winning it. Bellevue made the regional a few years ago (2008)

Interesting about Silver Grove. They have not made the regional since being moved to the 10th. The last appearance was in 1978 as a member of the 9th region. It was one year after St Thomas closed, and 1 year before Scott High school opened. Beat Campbell to make the regional field.

Holy Cross has had some really good teams from 2004 to today yet they just can't get over the CCH/Holmes hump. Crazy to think of the quality of teams that have made it to the 9th region tourney while HC was sitting in the stands watching.

HC was even the "favorite" in some of those years but just could not win the one game they needed to.

Great work I would like to see teams that have never went to the Sweet 16. I think the 16th region has had 3 schools.

In the 9th do we include Covington Latin? When did they last make it?

I still see the bucket with about 5 seconds going in against us in the '82 Scott game. Lost by 1. That was as close as I got to playing in the regional tournament.

Played 5 years of high school baseball - drew Highlands twice (even beat them once) and Campbell County 4 times.

Played 4 years of high school basketball - drew Scott once, Campbell County 3 times.

We drew opposite of Bishop Brossart every time. In fact, I always thought that defied the law of averages (and no, I'm not saying it would have been a lock but at least one of us would have gotten to go).

No, Latin hasn't been. I failed to include them on this list. My apologies.

90s were a great decade for the tribe. Since 2000 they have fallen on hard luck. If it wasn't for that first round upset in 95 when one of greatest HC teams ever got upset by CCH and HC voted for seeding changes these past 14 years may have been different.

Great info. Very good work for putting this list together.

I was as surprised as many to see Holy Cross in the Ninth Region list. Hard to believe it's been 10 years and counting for the Tribe considering some of the teams they've had during that span.

In the age of seeding, some of the small schools on the list may be destined to remain on the list for a long time.
