February 21, 201412 yr Arizona Passes Controversial Anti-Gay Bill The bill will now go to the Governor, who vetoed a similar bill last year. Hopefully, he uses common sense and does so again. :banghead:
February 21, 201412 yr This will turn ugly. With that said, isn't a business owner allowed to turn down serving anyone they want? I don't know the answer, just asking because I heard in the past a business owner could turn down whoever they wanted.

There are parameters, but you can't deny people based upon race, gender, religious affiliation, etc. under the Civil Rights Act. Sexual orientation is not addressed with this and really at the crux of Fairness legislations or ordinances being adopted nation wide.

Same today just different prejudice.
February 22, 201412 yr I saw where a Tuscon pizza place has now posted a sign saying "We Reserve The Right To Refuse Service To Arizona Legislators."
February 22, 201412 yr This is so stupid. It's one thing for a church to deny marriage to a same sex couple, but for a restaurant to deny them food or a department store to deny them clothes is asinine, hateful and despicable. Marriage, especially in a lot of Christian churches is a religious institution. Eating or shopping has ZERO to do with religion. This is discrimination plain and simple based on the fact that they're "different".
February 22, 201412 yr My home office is in Scottsdale and I go there 2-3 times a year. I have never spoken to one of the employees based there that is not embarrassed by the reputation they have as a state on their political thinking. I wonder how do these people get elected. The Arizonians that I interact with seem no different than anywhere else I travel. A beautiful place to visit. This is just plain hateful.
February 22, 201412 yr First the Arizona immigration flap, now this. The state - right or wrong - is getting a reputation as a very intolerant one.

What's funny is Phoenix is hosting the Super Bowl in '15. Suppose Michael Sam gets drafted by a team that goes to the Super Bowl. An AZ restaurant could legally refuse to serve him (while serving the rest of the team) if Gov. Jan Brewer signs the bill. Sounds remarkably similar to what baseball went through about 65 years ago.
February 22, 201412 yr Arizona has no immigration "flap".. They do have a serious illegal immigration problem that the feds seem to ignore so they have to go it alone...
February 22, 201412 yr Arizona has no immigration "flap".. They do have a serious illegal immigration problem that the feds seem to ignore so they have to go it alone... May not be a "flap" to you, but to many it is. Profiling and discrimination to the nth degree.
