I have never respected or understood passive aggressive, manipulative or the destructive mentality of picking up all your pieces and going home when the game isn't going your way unless there is some clearly stating and logical reasoning as to how this will help reach a goal. Romney would have had to disavow the GOP national platform to make himself more appealing to women and Hispanics. Doing so would have cost him GOP votes in the general election, so it essentially was a lose-lose proposition. I've enjoyed the discussion on this thread between Know It All and the mainstream Republicans. It appears it's just a matter of time before the conservative wing of the GOP officially exits the GOP small tent.

Step 1 is to send the good ol' boy Repubs to the retirement home. Step 2 is to grow the party and start beating the libs in important elections in blue and purple states. I'm only fine with sending the good ol" boy Repubs to retirement when their new replacements have a chance to beat the gool ol' boy Dems in the general elections, no way I'm surrendering a seat in the meantime. As pointed out, the Dems without any opposition have shown how much damage they can do to the country in a hurry. Obviously you have loads of advice with only the health of the Republicans at heart, right?

What? Based on whose opinion? Romney did separate himself from the far right majority. That's why he lost and Obama won. He did not energize and mobilize the conservative base because he had a liberal record as Governor of Massachusetts. He advocated for a health insurance mandate, he signed an assault weapons ban, he raised taxes, he COULD NOT distinguish himself from Obama. McCain had the SAME problem.

Why has Karl Rove declared war on Tea Party groups? Why has Mitch McConnell threatened any Senator who affiliates with Senate Conservatives Fund? The old-guard faction in the GOP is scared and they are losing.

The democrats have done a lot better job of creating a coalition of groups with different interests even if a lot of the promises is smoke and mirror. The media is and has been a willing participant to help sell conservatives down the street. The republicans, nationally, have quite a challenge to get back on top, and it will be even more difficult or impossible if, in fact, they are really two factions.

The opposition is liberal Republicans. If you don't want to see a divided party, tell John McCain, Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, and Eric Cantor to stop using their power to coerce the R caucus into supporting big government policies. There's a reason why the Obama Administration is using the IRS to double-down on C4s, conservative groups have kicked liberal butt over the past few years.
