It is unfair to every conservative activist in Kentucky to justify a vote for Mitch McConnell, even in the General. He is a Republican in name only. If we can't control our own party now, we can't control what happens once they have the majority.

How much did the size and scope of government grow under the Bush Administration? What does more damage to the conservative cause? Our own party drastically expanding government, or the opposition drastically expanding government? Rand Paul has tremendous power because he aligns himself with like-minded outside groups. I wholeheartedly agree that primaries are the BEST way to punish liberal Republicans. However, that is NOT an excuse to reward bad politicians in the General. If Romney had won in 2012, the Assault Weapons Ban and Brady Checks Expansion last year would have had enough bipartisan support to pass the Senate and House. It's much easier to rally conservatives against Obama's radical gun grab than Romney's moderate expansion of background checks. The same concept applies to McConnell. The facts are your tea party does not constitute a winnable majority in this nation. MANY of us are conservative economically and legislatively but more liberal socially. The ultra-conservative while appealing to our right-leaning economic prejudices is too far right on social issues to be supported. By maintaining these far right social positions, they keep the republican party OUT of the national picture as there are too many people alienated by their moral views. So, my friend, although it is difficult for me to swallow as well, it is not the Rhinos who are jeopardizing the party it is the 100% far right stances of many of the party members. WHO among them will represent the economically conservative, socially moderate? Those people will be electable!
February 10, 201412 yr But if Obama is unchecked for the next 2 years how much damage can he do? In a normal situation I would agree 100% with you but this is not normal. There is a President in office who is willing to do anything to push his agenda through. Give him 2 more years with a Senate majority and he can stack every bench in the country with people that will support his agenda thanks to Reid's nuclear option. Between that and his willingness to use executive orders to bypass congress it becomes even more imperative that anything that can be done must be done to stop him. I may be 100% wrong but I don't believe anyone but McConnell can beat Grimes and she MUST be beaten. I will say this, if Bevin wins the primary he has my vote in the general. Those that claim that are misleading the tea party movement. It's all economics.

Brings to mind Carter's problems with Democratic Congress in late '70s, as well as Ike's difficulties with congressional GOP leadership in late '50s. Eisenhower was more comfortable dealing with the opposition (LBJ) than he was with the Taft-McCarthy crowd.

Your ideas to sabotage the election in 14 if you don't get the candidate you want will hurt the conservative movement much more. I don't need to be preached to about what is best for the movement. I'm a staunch fiscal conservative. I'm a Milton Friedman clone. I'm pro-life, anti-drug laws, I don't care who wants to marry who. I'm anti death penalty. . The #1 thing on my agenda anytime I vote is my pocket book and the economy. The best thing my pocketbook right now is to vote for whoever can block Obama's agenda. I was at Tea Party rallies since day one I'm all for cleaning up Washington I've supported it my entire adult life and push for officals who meet my ideas the best. I'm also a realist and understand sometimes I have to swallow a bitter pill for the long term good. Mitch was the king of pork before the tea party came into fold. The tea party made him check himself. Mitch has made many moves I don't agree with. But he is nowhere near the level of our current president or the democrat leaders of the Senate. If there is one thing positive anyone can say about Mitch is he knows politics and how did get things through in Washington. I'd like a guy like that in Washington and I can hope Rand Paul to convince him of the fiscal conservative ideas in Washington.

MM voted for the Fair Minimum Wage Act that increased the federal minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour in 2007. MM voted for the recent $1 trillion farm bill aka food stamp bill.
