February 10, 201412 yr A Republican majority means nothing if the majority of Republicans vote liberal. "more liberal candidate. . ." McConnell can't get much more liberal: No Child Left Behind, TARP, Medicare Part D, Obamacare, Fiscal Cliff Deal, raised debt ceiling. I can keep going... Sure he can but the name would then be Grimes. I understand what you're trying to accomplish but with control in play it goes out the door. Otherwise by time your plan takes place there will be nothing left to salvage. Then what have you accomplished? Until a viable third party comes along you're doing nothing but destroying all chance for conservatives. No thanks.

Another six years of McConnell? What does that accomplish? Nothing. Just extends the good ol' boy network until 2020 and blocks the momentum of true conservatives. Conservatives are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. As Know It All points out, this practice has gotten them nowhere.

February 10, 201412 yr I'm fine with voting Bevin. I just think anyone who thinks voting for Grimes benefits a conservative movement is very misguided.

You are the least conservative person on this board. You are the last person to understand the mind set of a conservative.

McConnell is not one, he's a big government Republican with a big government voting record. The fed government didn't magically transform into the monster it is today just from Obama's last 5 years. Guys like Mitch/Bush/McCain/Rove-type Republicans do more harm to the conservative cause than Dems. If you vote for Republicans who vote like liberals, you are part of the problem.
February 10, 201412 yr If conservative voters do not punish liberal Republicans at the ballot box, they will not respect the conservative base. To be politically respected requires you to be politically feared. And no politician will fear conservatives as long as they vote for Republicans with BAD voting records. The left figured this out decades ago. See Bush/Gore/Nader 2000.

There are a lot of fiscal conservatives and libertarians in the Republican party today after the last few elections. What gives them a better chance of getting their voice heard , democrat lead Senate or a Republican lead Senate. Like 75 said I understand your point and in spirit I wish I could do the same. This election is to big to allow the Senate to stay in Democrat hands. The ability to cripple any power Obama has left surpasses any gripes fiscal conservatives and libertarins have with Mitch. If you vote for a liberal who will rubber stamp Obama's agenda I don't see how you are anything but a problem to the fiscal conservatives. Like I said the area to take Mitch on is in the primary but who ever wins that primary is better than supporting Obama fiscal plans.

The left figured this out decades ago. See Bush/Gore/Nader 2000. So vote Mitch out in the primary. Get behind Bevins and push him to the win. Rand Paul has already shown a true fiscal conservative can win in KY. But I'm sorry voting for Grimes sets the movement back.

You are the last person to understand the mind set of a conservative. You and 75 need to focus on the message, not the messenger. The McConnell wing of the Republican Party is so tight with big business, you couldn't separate 'em with a crowbar. That's primarily why the average worker is hurting so much today while sales of Cadillacs are doing just fine, thank you.

That's primarily why the average worker is hurting so much today while sales of Cadillacs are doing just fine, thank you. Any established politican is in tight with big business. Harry Reid and Nacy Pelosi have tight ties with big business, are you calling for them to lose their jobs? You will never hear me say McConnell is my perfect choice. But he is better than the Democrat choice of supporting Obama.

A majority does not mean squat if Senate Republicans compromise on KEY issues that are important to conservatives, and that's exactly what Boehner's doing in the House with sequester deal and amnesty... Rand Paul is in the minority of the upper chamber, yet he's the most well heard Senator in the country. . . Think about this: Why did the conservative movement grow so quickly? Obama (Dem) and the policies carried over from the Bush Admin. Why didn't conservatives rally against Bush like Obama if their policies are similar? He's a Republican. . . Quit falling into the lesser of two evils trap because it destroys our party. McConnell IS a rubber stamp for big government and he has a voting record to prove it. You act like big spending Republicans are different than big spending Democrats. I think that mindset is dangerous.

That's primarily why the average worker is hurting so much today while sales of Cadillacs are doing just fine, thank you. That sounds good at a democratic rally I guess. I am not an unabashed fan of Mitch, but there is too much immaturity in politics over the last 5 years. The liberals won their "mandate" at least for a while and threatened to run rough shod over the constitution, the working class, businesses and about everyone else who is at the backbone of our democracy in favor of a socialist system. Having the right-wing, ultra-conservatives against any change, isn't the right path either. Our best years are when there is more moderation both from the left and the right. To many of us, we see through the façade of the current president (small p) and his cronies and their hidden agenda of socialism, and we see that as a threat and a pivot point to the failure of our society. Imperfect or not, our country and our values are THE most tolerant and accepting of other cultures, races, religions and theologies, and it may be our undoing.

I'm happy being part of the problem if it means control of the house and senate while the opposition holds the white house. You're plan is a loser all around in those circumstances and makes things much worse.

But where does his ideas have more power as the minority party or the majority? I understand the emotion behind being angry with some of Mitch's voting record. You also have to see the big picture. I'm a tea party supporter since day one and define myself as a Libertarian. Mitch and I do not match up on a lot of things but their are some issues we do match. In a perfect world for KY you would have two Rand Pauls. It does seem like Rand and Mitch get along for the most part. So I would guess Rand would prefer Mitch to be leading the Senate so Rand could have his ear on some of his legislation ideas.
