I've seen him play; if someone is willing to give him an education based on that then he should sign at the first opportunity. He wouldn't get an offer if it was my money being used to finance it. But then, I wouldn't have offered Zeke Pike either.

 

It's funny there our coaches who make millions of dollars a year to recruit the best knocking down his door. Maybe you should call them and give them your opinion since you seen him play.

Everyone knows Matt will need to lose 30-40 pounds when he hits his college program. How hard do you guys think it will be for a guy that size to accomplish this task while working out under college trainers? I played a little college football myself and was a pretty big guy. I had no trouble cutting weight when I had no choice but to run my butt off with everyone else. It's amazing what a person can do when you are pushed beyond your limits and you have to get up the next day and do it all over. We had guys disappear in the middle of the night because they couldn't handle it. I don't think Matt will be one of those guys, and I say he drops the weight easily within the first 4-6 weeks.

40 pounds in 6 weeks... It will take him a redshirt year to lose all of it. But if/when he does he will be a good player don't get me wrong. But it really isn't that easy. There have been guys at UK, like Mister Cobble at UK who always seemed to be out of shape for 4 years.

I really hope Elam goes to UK, notwithstanding people's observations of his play in high school. Rarely have I ever seen a big lineman that impressed me in high school. Most of them are overweight, aren't strong enough and simply haven't had the time to "grow into' their big bodies.

 

Hell, Larry Warford didn't impress me at all in high school and he was pretty much owned by Cody Rosenhagen. But he went to UK, got in shape (well, as much as some one that big can be in shape), got stronger, improved his footwork and became an All SEC linemen and I believe in playing in the NFL now.

 

I can see the same thing happening to Elam if he is willing to do what it takes.

He doesn't have to play low in high school. He'll have to in college, and both schools he's looking at have extremely good defensive coaches that will get it out of him.

We should stop lumping Elam in with Zeke Pike. The worst thing Elam has done is a)be unsure of his huge decision and/or b)enjoy the spotlight.
