May 5, 201412 yr Weighed in this morning the lowest I have been in 8 yrs at 216lbs. I set a goal on April 1st to lose 8lbs in the month and I am at 7lbs lost on May 5th so I am close but not settling once I get there. Got a great workout in this morning doing some plyometrics at the gym as well as some Bi's and Tri's standing on the halfball. Make it a great week everyone !!!
May 5, 201412 yr Fell off the boat for a while, going to try to get back into it this week. I'm cutting out lunch and doing shakes instead. We'll see how well (or how long) that goes. I like this idea. What time of shakes are you doing?
May 6, 201412 yr Author 79 minutes in the gym and then went home and did Drench, a cardio workout from Tapout XT. (a little under 62 minutes)

May 6, 201412 yr Why do you say that? It lowers your metabolism, therefore, when you eat an actual meal its going to go into conserve mode and store it as fat. By eating 5-6 small meals a day and drinking a shake after a workout, you promote high metabolism. You want to build lean muscle, which in turn, burns fat. There are also other variables when working out that help build lean muscle and burn fat. Heart rate is a big one too.

I'm really not an advocate of replacing meals with shakes either, unless you're in a pinch.

Shakes don't lower your metabolism, not getting enough calories lowers your metabolism. But like JCVD stated, not a fan except in a pinch.

May 6, 201412 yr Author 86 minutes in the gym and then I went home and did Cardio Power and Resistance from the insanity series(39:18) I have added a extra set to each exercise at the gym,so far so good.
May 7, 201412 yr You're right!! My personal trainer, nutritionist, and doctor, who all said that they will lower metabolism, all lied to me. You want to have a big boy discussion about it or just be a smart butt.
May 7, 201412 yr You want to have a big boy discussion about it or just be a smart butt. Substituting a shake for a meal will lower metabolism, because all of the nutrients and vitamins are not there, real food makes your body work to digest it, shakes do not. by your body working and actively breaking down real food it raises metabolism. I'm not saying for yo to disregard shakes all around but, They are meant to be used generally after a work out. that can boost your metabolism as well. no where on a protein bottle will it say: This protein can be used as a meal substitute.
