I think NewCath wins, but I think it will be a great game. Needless to say, if CovCath can get into NewCath's bench, their odds go up.

 

Heppler / Weyer match-up, to me, is huge. Does NewCath have a reliable 2nd point guard / ball handler to help release pressure?

 

From an atmosphere standpoint, this will be an epic Friday night in Park Hills; I can't wait.

If NewCath continues neglecting its paint presence on offense, it plays right into CovCath's hands. Schulte or McDonald should touch the ball on 90% of possessions. Both need to be in the 15-20 pt range. That is NewCath's strength. The offense is starting to fall back to old habits of too many 3s. A dominant post presence will open up looks out there.

My guess on match ups:

 

Ruthsatz v T. Moeves

VonHandorf v Pangallo

Heppler v Weyer

Schuh v McDonald

Schult v Schulte

NewCath shooting to many 3s and not using thier big men. New year same old story. CovCath gets win to cap off a giant week. Still not happy my daughter has basketball on friday nights. Missed football playoffs and now I will miss thos game too.

Having seen both teams play on back to back nights I will take CCH in a close one. NCC has the bigs to easily win this game but judging by last nights game they were not using them very well and if that happens again CCH will win this one. NR and CVH will have far too much overall quickness although Pangallo will more than hold his own. However, if NCC pounds it inside CCH will NOT have an answer whatsoever. Just my opinion.

I couldn't agree more, which is why I think CovCath's #1 priority will be extreme ball pressure and making the entry passes as difficult as possible. If they can cut the head off the snake, the bigs will either be on the block with no pill, or will have to come out and get the ball, which then negates their advantage quite a bit.

 

Either way, Friday will be an outstanding basketball game.

Haven't seen NCC yet this season. Are opposing coaches "packing it in" against the bigs? That's what I would do. I would make NCC beat me from outside. Sometimes its just a matter of taking what the other team will give you.

 

I have read several posts that Moeves is shooting over 50% from behind the arc. That equates to over 75% from inside the three point line. A direct result of teams overplaying the big men and giving open looks to the guards.

 

On Friday night, if CovCath pressures the guards, extends and tries to double out front, you will see the ball go inside time and time again. One big at the foul line to help with a release from the pressure, and one big on the block.

 

The only way this game turns into a 3 point shooting contest is if CovCath goes away from the defensive sets that has gotten them to 11-0 so far this season. I just don't see it happening at this point in the season.

If NewCath utilizes the strength of their bigs they can get Schuh and Shult into foul trouble, and rack up a bunch at the line, as well as make CovCath suffer late in the game if either Schuh or Shult foul out.

 

I think CovCath's speed throughout will expose the Bred's lack of bench depth and it can become most evident towards 4th period.

 

CovCath's bench depth over NewCath's lack of, will be evident throughout the game with the Colonels shuffling in and out at will, and will prompt future points of discussion of NewCath's long term chances.

 

I don't see CovCath completely dominating, but the game will show how numerous their options can be.

 

Ruthsatz typically can dazzle with finding a way inside, but in this game it might prove to be too tough, and he'll have to settle for longer range shots and multiple assists. If he can sell his flops, he might be effective in causing foul trouble with the bigs, but we'll have to see early on in the game how that works out for him.

 

If Pangallo can have an amazing game like he's no doubt capable of, those who've yet to be much aware of him will start talking about how awesome and smooth he is.

 

Both teams will have to be on from long range, and this may prove to be the difference. If NewCath does utilize their bigs, CovCath will have to compensate by connecting on a bunch of 3's. Heppler and Ruthsatz will have to have stellar nights long range, as will Pangallo, and M & M.

 

CovCath needs to control the tempo to get the "W" by wearing out NewCath's 6 players. I think that they can and will walk away with the victory in this big time close battle by utilizing speed, depth, and discipline over height.
