December 22, 201312 yr I for one didn't like what she said but she had the right to say it. There is a lot of stuff said that I don't like, but outside of bullying I think most of it is and should be protected. Of course speech should be protected (from the govt). We all agree on that point. I'm saying we don't always practice what we say we believe.
December 22, 201312 yr Freedom of Religion would be if they were not allowed to practice their religion or fired for simply being of a certain religion. This is purely a speech issue (like the Chicks) and the consequences of expressing your opinion. But isn't he basically being suspended because of his religion? His relgion teaches that homosexuality is a sin. He simply stated that and was suspended. He wasn't stating his opinion when talking about homosexuality and whyhe got introuble, he was stating what his relgioun says about it. His personal opinion he did state and said he loves all gods creatures no matter what, gay or straight alike. so his opinion of trating everyone and loving everyone the same isn't what got him suspended, which is his opion.
December 22, 201312 yr That sounds like pure rationalization to me. Both said something that offended people. No one protested Phil's going to church. They protested what he said. And she was still allowed to make records...in both cases the public has the chance to vote with their wallet. In her case the public seemed to have spoken loudly with their wallets...we will see how the public wallets vote on Phil.
December 22, 201312 yr I have never seen Duck Dynasty and probably never will, as these type of shows do not interest me in any way. I have no problem with Phil saying what he said (although I don't agree) and no problem with A & E taking the action they did. It is their $$ and their company. There are things I cannot say or do or there would be consequences with my company.

In her case the public seemed to have spoken loudly with their wallets...we will see how the public wallets vote on Phil. While true, it's irrelevant to the point I am making. Those same people who voted with their wallets are now saying that AE can't protect their own wallet.

He is not being suspended for his religion. His religion hasn't changed. If AE had a problem with his religion he wouldn't still have a contract.
December 22, 201312 yr That sounds like pure rationalization to me. Both said something that offended people. No one protested Phil's going to church. They protested what he said. That confuses me. He isn't being suspended because of his religion, but he's being suspended for talking about his religion. That would tell me that no one can talk about their religion, just go to church and outside of church if asked about your church, you should never talk about it.

Well, it depends on who you're talking to. Talking to one who works for an organization that buys ink by the barrel should give one pause.

That is what I've been saying all along which makes this entire thing silly on A&E's part. They already knew his beliefs. So why all of a sudden now suspend him when they knew all along he hhas gone out and gave speeches at churches etc. about the very same thing he talked about to GQ.. That has been the question I have had all along. Why now? They already knew all this about the family. why now?

No one knew of these cats 3 years ago when that other video was made. Church speeches haven't shown up online. They couldn't harm AE back then.
December 22, 201312 yr This is getting even more interesting now. Don't know if this is true or not, but it does make it interesting Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson and family lash back at A&E | Mail Online This article states that A&E did have someone present during the interview and could of stopped it from being printed etc. yet did nothing. The reasoning folks close to the Robertson clan note are interesting.

No, no, that person couldn't. GQ wasn't there to interview handlers. They were there to interview Robertson. He alone has the power to "stop it from being printed" by simply not agreeing to do the interview in the first place.
December 22, 201312 yr FWIW, Cracker Barrel isn't getting much support on their facebook page regarding their decision to remove the Duck Dynasty items.

Your right, the publicist that was there wasn't the one being questioned but was there to oversee the interview. You would think that if question came up that could have led to a controversial reply the publicist job was to step in and instruct Phil not to answer. But as I said in an earlier post the interviewer from A&E waited until he was alone with Phil to ask the questions that brought about the response that has everyone in an uproar. Phil was comfortable enough with the reporter that they went off on 4 wheelers together and the publicist stayed behind...that's when the controversial conversation took place.
