Phil Robertson Suspended From A&E

Mo idea what the contract says but I guarantee you it covers this situation and is legal.

II think wwe'd have to read the contract, I am willing to bet it doesn't say anything about them not talking about their religous beliefs away from the show.

Which by the way in case people have forgotten what thisentire thing is about, it is everything about his religous beliefs. Lets not lose sight of that very important fact.

There was a case locally where a new county clerk was elected and fired employees that backed his opponent, you OK with getting fired for that? Not Race, Religion or Sex.

Political patronage is a whole 'nuther animal unto itself, and nothing in the political world applies to regular (private businesses) nuts'n'bolts employer-employee relationships.

Not my style but the boss gets to have who he/she wants as employees.

The law says differently, it cost the county several thousands of dollars in damages and the employees that wanted their job back, got them.

This has happened three times over the last 20 years that I can think of and our elected officials have lost in court every time and our county taxes have been used to pay for the trial and pay the damages to the terminated employees.

Even though it's really a religious belief that is propped up into higher profile because of the "ickyness" many folks feel when it comes to issues of homosexuality (as was alluded to earlier, but no one who holds these beliefs cares to acknowledge)? Especially since most people zone in on guy-on-guy relationships and tend to ignore girl-on-girl ones, or even find them outright sexy?

So you would of been fired if you said homosexuality was a sin?

I find that very hard to believe.

Why?

So employees in a political office (County Court Clerks Office for example) have more or less rights than the employee at the local bank or Fast Food Restaurant?

I would argue that government folks in Pulaski County don't always do a good job of picking their court battles, but that's another story.

To me, it comes down to whether the job is a patronage one or a merit one. If it's a patronage job — and really, aren't pretty much all county jobs in Ky manned by unskilled or low-skilled workers just that? — then the employees should expect to be cashiered when the new bunch arrives in office.

See above.

The wording would deal with "harm."

The wording would deal with "harm."

And how exactley did he harm A&E with taling about his religious beliefs? Everybody familiar with the family already knew his beliefs. If his beliefs were going to harm the network it already would have.

In the end I think this situation has taught me that networks love contraversial shows, but in the end are so scared of offending anyone that may be watching that if they don't have coplete control over everything and anything when it comes to anyone on their network they simply can't handle it and their ego's then get in the way because how dare someone on their network say anything to anyone that they haven't scripted for them in the first place. Religion or perssonal beliefs is has no place over the network head honchos themselves.

In the end, the only reason PPhil got suspended is because GQ is a national publication. He said worse things in the past but was never suspended because they were at the local church of christ .

the bigger the format, the harder they fall.

Usually contracts state that just because a clause wasnt previously enforced it doesnt mean that it cant be enforced later. Maybe AE judged this particular case to be worse than previous They deemed this one harmful.

This could very well be the case.

If that is the fact, then I would be curious if A&E warned him not to say the same things again. It is cclear he's said things along the same lines in the past. If they did warn him to keep that line of talk tto himself in the future in public places, then they are 100% in the right. I however do not think thatt is the case or I'm sure that would of been released in the wake of all the negative press A&E is recieving now.

But what has actually happened flies in the face of what your saying, they tried to fire them (you said they should expect that) but in each case the elected official lost in court and were told that they could not fire them without cause. The fired employees received back pay compensation in some cases damages and their job back in some cases. So the courts have said that you can't just fire someone without cause just because your the newly elected "Boss".

Give me some info on these. Googling shows it happens every where across the country and has been deemed legal.

Clyde, I do have one serious question for you. not sure if you read my post about this or not, but what do you think about A&E having a Duck dynasty marathon in 2 days and airing 6 new episodes in Jan all including PHil in all those episodes? Isn't that a bit hypocritical? I mean if they are suspending PHil because of this and want to show the people and companies who are upset with what Phil said, then why air all those episodes after they suspended him from the show?

He was fired, suspended, whatever because a bunch of gay groups protested and A&E was scared of the same stuff Chic Filet went through and afraid a boycott would happen with their sponsors. Maybe they are looking at 3 years down the line when DD may have run its course.
