^ The American Conference but, yes. The Cardinals played Thursday and away but could have conceivably played a home game on Friday or Saturday.

 

No longer an issue next year as the ACC's championship weekend is the first weekend in December.

Their website states 5,000 seat capacity expandable to 20,000. Not sure how you expand that much and not be crappy seats.

I don't think you could have crappy seats there. Like I said they have both endzones to put bleachers in also. I think it would be a perfect place.

EKU would have been a nightmare this weekend with the rain and bad conditions as well. Not a lot of covered seating options in Richmond.

 

Kentucky State needs to take football more seriously and build a nice 11K seat Stadium with a nice pressbox, club level seating, and quality dressing rooms HAHA

 

 

 

I agree. I think a perfect place for the state funded High School stadium would be Cooper High School :thumb:

What about ETOWN. That would be as close to center as it can get. BG is the next.

I like the easy access to WKU FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Plenty of good restaurants real close, and you can be out of heavy traffic in likity split!

So what can you do? As I stated earlier, the only way to look at it from purely a travel standpoint, is to look at average distance for all teams. I don't think 32 miles per team average is that much more of a burden to justify all the complaints about playing in Bowling Green vs. Louisville.

In my opinion, the only reason I see maybe it would be better in Louisville, is there would be more things for the fans to do outside of the games in Louisville. Not sure how much of that plays into anyone's planning, but other than that I don't think it is a big difference. The stadium size at WKU is much more intimate than it would ever be at PJCS.

We go to the finals for nothing but the games. Nothing else in Bowling Green or Louisville is important enough for us to stay.

I think their are three issues with venue:

 

1. Travel. For this issue there is no easy answer as it is far more complex than travel distance for teams. Travel for fans is important as well, and for football there has been little to no success in selling the finals experience to casual fans. Regardless of where these games are held the participating teams will bring their fans. Yes there will be variation from one venue to the next, but any loss of fans from one side is probably negated by the other fan bases closer proximity.

 

2. Host City. If I am going to the finals weekend as a casual fan I may be looking for a variety of options. Economics may be the driver and I want cheap places to stay, eat, and entertain myself. For others they may be looking for a high end hotel, fine dinning, etc.. For me personally, I want to experience something unique to the area or outside of the normal at home. ( I don't want appleby's I can get that anywhere) as someone else mentioned, does the destination offer something for kids spouses that they may find of interest outside of football.

 

3. Venue. As others have said, a giant stadium is not an asset when only 5000 people attend. It is actually a detractor. Thus WKU is better than Pappa J from a fan standpoint. From a team standpoint WKU is horrible and does nothing to get better from year to year. Last year the Highlands players dressed for the game in the back of the end zone in full view of the public. 16 to 18 year olds stripped down to their underwear surrounded by teammates, but in a public place, as the clock for warmups began and the team had no locker room. On the other side a room separated by a curtain as one team comes in flying or crying from their game, while the other waits to take the field. Often the coach of one team quiets his team while the other coach addresses his own, and then gives his pre game speech. For these reasons WKU is a miserable failure.

Maybe the new conference will be easier to work with. I don't mind WKU, but I wouldn't whine about a return to Louisville. That said, after this year I'd prefer a dome.

What about Farris Stadium at Centre College? They don't call it "Centre" for nothing. Has lights and synthetic turf but insufficient seating capacity. I believe Danville is essentially now completely wet, if I'm not mistaken, for those who like a libation here and there.........I propose this with tongue in cheek.
