Any list that has a team between Collins and HHS is flawed (game decided on the last play - teams dead even). Not sure where you place them in the hierarchy, but Collins then HHS should be the order.

How is DeSales 5 places higher than the Breds?

Mayfield has a darn fine team and could play with teams 6-9 and even beat them on any given night.. but their depth would not lend itself to consistently being the "better" team in this wonderful hypothetical situation. DeSales, OTOH, impressed me a lot. 2A has arguably been the weakest Finals participants the past few years (outside of the 1A sacrificial lamb from the East), but DeSales was an impressive team with depth, balance, size, and skill.

Even though I think comparing scores is the worst way to compare teams, I've got no problem moving them ahead of Collins.

Especially this year. Meade County also lost to Male by 29, and lost to a Scott County team who beat Male by 7. Not the year to compare scores at all.

I would have a tough time ranking Mayfield ahead of Wayne County.

 

Wayne's defense was very stout, and they really demolished Tilghman in the semifinals, which was the only common opponent they shared with Mayfield.

I am with you... I still think Mayfield is pound for pound the best overall team in KY and I have no problem accepting the fact that in a one game setting they could hang with almost anyone but BG and Scott County... but there are limitations in terms of size, depth, and matchups that would make them an underdog the majority of the time against the majority of the teams that played this weekend.

Then compare the Wayne County / Williamsburg score. Mayfield was in my opinion the underdog against McCracken County but they won. And all you get is one game settings. Could Mayfield win and compete against most teams in BG? Yes, would they win all ? Probably not.

As to the bolded, I agree with you emphatically. I love the Mayfield program and in a one game situation, they have shown they can compete with, and beat good teams from higher classifications.

 

After watching both teams play live (granted, one game) I still would rank Wayne Co above Mayfield. That is just my opinion, and it isn't a knock on Mayfield. I would add that if they played, a Mayfield win wouldn't even raise an eyebrow from me.

OK, I grant you this. However, most bring up the PT/Mayfield/Wayne results and compare the score but I bring it up and you dont wanna compare the scores.
