Kick off Friday night against Frankfort is 6:30 pm

This group of 30 kids will travel for 4 1/2 hours on Friday and when they get off the bus and walk into the stadium those that see them will say they don't look like much. They not very big. They look like a rag-tag bunch.

 

Here is what will be said when they leave. Those boys laid it on the line and got after us for 4 quarters.

Who knows with a few turnovers or a few unexpected things occur Frankfort might be right there with few minutes to go.

 

People can think what they want but it will be just like that for Mayfield. A gritty tough bunch who doesn't know how to quit. The guy who predicted a blowout is not a Mayfield poster. The quote you said about Frankfort doesn't look like much....Just wait till you see Mayfield. You will say the same thing about them.

I would agree, Robinson, Acree and Washington are all dangerous

 

Frankfort of late has had great success running Acree behind a very good line and occasionally running QB Robinson who has runs more than he throws of late. They also ran Jalen Washington more early and Washington is Robinson's favorite target when passing though Frankfort has only completed around 44% of their passes. Against the 2 highest rated teams on their schedule, Frankfort has passed alot more (Franklin County and Bullitt East).

 

On offense they seem to go with whatever they feel gives them the best chance when it comes to running or passing but appear to prefer running and that is where they have been more successful. It appears to me that we can expect balance from their offense and the 3 main cogs so far have been Acree, Robinson and Washington, though several others sometimes get involved.

 

Their defensive line is very impressive on par with some of the better ones we have seen.

Winning this game will be a challenge, one I think we are ready for but they are pretty darn good and have improved greatly since the begining of the season

Folks mayb Mayfield will blow the Panthers out. Frankfort realizes they are playing Class A best team. They realize they have been a great program for many years.

I agree. I have no doubt Frankfort will be a worthy opponent. I like watching scrappy teams play.

I'll say this. Out of all the past 5 Mayfield teams, from 2009 to this years team, this one has been the most overachieving of the bunch. They don't have 3 or 4 stud receivers, they don't have a Jonathan Jackson or Tyreese Murrell toting the rock, they don't have the overall team speed of the past several teams, yet, they've played what I'd consider the toughest schedule that any of them have played and done extremely well. What they do have is alot of good, not great football players that are tough, fundamentally sound and play 4 quarters as hard as they can night in, night out. They have a 3 year starting QB and an experienced line and a bunch of different guys that have steped up at different times. Maybe it's the fact that all these guys have been in the title game for every year they've been in HS and don't know that they're not as talented as some others. All they know is that they represent the community and it's expected of them to win championships and that gives them that extra motivation to play at a level they otherwise couldn't play at. What flaws they may have, they make up for with grit and determination and playing the game plan to a T that the coaches lay out for them. So, imo, regardless if they win or lose from here out, they've been great representatives of this small W.Ky community and one of the funnest Cardinal teams to watch play that's ever laced them up and I've seen alot of them over the years.

That's why they say "winning is contagious". It's expected. Winning once is hard, no one has ever done it before you. Winning the second time is easier, you expect it. Hat's off to Mayfield for getting to that level.
