Do The Beechwood Tigers Need a Change?

Featured Replies

Again, these coaches didn't build it into a State Power. It was a was State Power when they tookk it over.

If you understood what I said is that these guys helped build them into a state power when they were players. Now they are trying to keep it a state power!

Sky is not falling and in class A it can happen again !

That is the expectation in FT Mitchell like it or not ! That is the expectation Coach Yeagle set.

I have been following this thread all weekend and do not know where to begin but will make a few quick points and observations:

1- VOR has no clue.

2- VOR has no clue.

3- History and Toothpick are dead on.

4- Playing career has nothing to do with coaching ability. There are guys who made it to the NFL that can't read.

5- There has been a drop off at Beechwood the last couple of years and it has zero to do with the talent level or the opponents talent. Kids are soft.I would use another term here but do not want to get the boot.

6-Since 2006 Beechwood has defeated zero teams they were not supposed to beat and never beat NCC and CCH in the same year. IMO these teams are the measuring stick for the program like it or not .

7-VOR has no clue.

8- Class A titles alone will not do.

So what needs to be done IMO ?

Rash is the guy for the job. He needs to take a long hard look at his staff and his own organization. This not easy to do in life, business or sports. He will need to make painful decisions soon IMO. I have spent time on the sidelines for all of the previous coaching staffs going back to the late 70's and this group does not measure up to the previous staffs IMO. Halftime adjustments and in game adjustments are non-exsistant.They are way too predictable. Number one they have too many coaches or so called coaches. Need to reduce the staff by half at least. Based on the returning talent now is the best time to do this.

Its the same old same old. Just go back in the BGP archives and read.

I think the majority of the Beechwood faithful are in coach Rash's corner ? It is time for him to take a long hard painful look at his program/structure and make some changes. I have confidence that that will happen. The same old same old is not going to cut it. I just hope for Noels sake the Old Ft. Mitchell mafia does not get there panties in a wad. If that was to happen ? Well lets just say even Vince Lombardi may have been in trouble. The expectations are high at Beechwood. That's a good thing. Now is the time for change.

Z5 ... I have read through your post 3 times now and you will probably be surprised when I say I agree with a lot of what you say - except the part about me not having a clue. :)

As I said above in an earlier post, I am trying to add the other side of the discussion to what the bashers are throwing out there. I said above that there have been changes and I am sure there will be more evaluation and changes. Everyone at Beechwood wants and expects more, including Coach Rash.

One question I would like to hear the answer to from you or History - what team did Beechwood beat that they weren't supposed to beat in the 6 or 7 years before Rash became the coach?

I also question you on last year's team being soft. I didn't see that at all. But I have no clue so I am sure I am wrong. I will pass on your thoughts to Max Nussbaum, Chris Lightner, Corey Biddle, Chad Evans, Colin Justice, Gage Erdman ... you know, the guys you think were soft. I would say you have no clue on that one, but I am not going there. Of course, since you feel they are soft I am sure you have no problem telling them that yourself. Let me know when you do because I would like to be there for that discussion.

My main point is this. Beechwood's program is still at the top tier level in the state. Beechwood has experienced great success with Coach Rash.

We agree on Rash, and that is what is most important in this discussion. We agree that there needs to be improvement. We agree that there needs to be more changes made within the program to get better. Heck, I think Coach Rash agrees with all that. But, I have no clue, so take that comment for what it is worth in your opinion.

One "upset" that comes to mind. I think it was 2011 Beechwood Vs Dixie at Dixie. Zeke Pike led Colonels get a taste of Lipton.

They are soft! Nuss didnt play with fully torn MCL just a partial torn one. Lighter played with a brace tohold his shoulder in socket. Soft! Erdman blew his knee out twice! Soft! Justice didnt have knees left!!! Geez what a bunch of babies! Haha!

Was that really an upset? Several teams throttled Zeke Pike led teams that year.

You're right that wasnt a upset that was a bloodbath!

Where is QuickSlick? I'd love to hear him chime in and tell everyone how stupid they are for not agreeing with him. Quite surprised actually.

Curious what metric are you using to compare the two ?

State titles ? OK...Rash has one more.

I would argue Barre accomplished more with less than Rash. Barre built that program and put them in position to have the success they had in the 90's and beyond. Barre is 7th all time in wins in the state of Ohio and a member of the Ohio HS hall of Fame. Not to shabby. I hope in 20 years we can say the same about Coach Rash.

Wins, final fours, winning percentage. Barre's wins in Ohio are a non issue, we're talking performance at Beechwood in their first several years. Bernie didn't win a title until his 9th year. He stepped in after Slagel and Mariani got the program jumpstarted so he didn't come in to a bare bones program. He did take it up to a level where Yeagle could take it to the stratosphere. Don't know how long you've followed it but I certainly remember the grumbling about Barre right up until 1984 and even after that it didn't end, just was muted.

I wouldn't say Barre was handed a pretty good program. They were bad when Barre took over, I don't think they ever had a plyoff win or playoff berth (not sure) before he got there. Not for certain but if they did have a playoff win before him it was few and far between. Barre had a huge hand in building up the program. With that said there is no comparison to any coaching staff to what Yeagle had done at the school. No one else is close. Barre was a very good coach and he didn't have much when he got there and did improve the program but I wouldn't say he was great nor would I say he was bad. He improved the program up until the day he left.

He will only chime in when he wants to upset people lol...guess he is in the holiday spirit

Hahahaha, so true. I looked up Dixie's record that year and they were 3-8 not very good. They also lost by double digits to the following schools

NCC, Cov Cath, Highlands, Beechwood, Campbell Co., Ryle, Cooper and Lafayette

Basically every game they lost, they lost big

Hahaha....not good for Zeke

Me thinks he is posting in this thread already, that certain style is not common

In the three years before Bernie took over they made it to the regional finals, went 9-1 but lost to Ludlow so didn't go to the playoffs, and went to the state finals losing to Murray. It was not a losing program. Off season training and weight programs were started under Slagel and Mariani. Bernie did build the program up but he was handed a program already winning and on the right track.

For the people in the know, help me w/ this. From '91 through '97 (at least) Beechwood's lines were HUGE, athletic, and the best or second best in the area each year. Was that a cyclical thing, or has the focus changed to a more svelte line, b/c they don't seem near as big as they did in years past? IMO, that was the key. Beechwood always had a couple of really fast backs, a bell cow, and an ability to adjust to whatever the situation demanded. They never had to rely on the pass to win, and under Yeagle, they really weren't that great throwing the ball. What they did have were linemen that could maul you for 48 minutes.

Very good observation and point mex.
