February 14, 201412 yr Gray 6th grade won the final game. Came back from being down. It will be interesting to watch the two bigs for Gray, if other kids start to grow this summer they could be come an average team really quick. Last year.... Well, there goes my upset call of Turkeyfoot over Gray. Woodlands has a very athletic big kid and some good guards. I didn't get to see Camp Ernst this year or hear much about them. this year, getting to be a routine...... bad blood? or just fun? Just curious, no offense meant.
February 14, 201412 yr I'll disagree with your view on the intentional. To me it was a no-brainer. Just curious, is that your take because the foul was from behind the offensive player? I ask because clearly, everytime a defender attempts to strip the ball from an offensive player as he goes up for a layup its not an intentional foul... so how do you conclude this one is a "no brainer" in all sincerity?
February 14, 201412 yr No bad blood...Rankin is a good player and Braydon is too. They are a well coached team, I think everyone knows you can't stop Vince, but if you can limit him and make the guards hit outside shots you stand a chance. In my non-coaching, parent sitting in the bleacher opinion I would take my chances making the guards shoot outside...if they beat you hitting 3's hats off to them. Saturday should see Gray winning another regional title, but the center for Woodlands is very active. If the guards for Woodlands can hit from outside and get some points from the free throw liine they should keep it close. The 7th grade boys basketball as a whole has been very good to watch. It will be fun to see how these boys progress over the next 2 years before playing JV and Varsity.

February 14, 201412 yr The count was fast. You don't have 1 as soon as you hand the ball. You wait a second before you get to 1. I had the whistle right at 4. However, again, we don't know because he didn't show a visual count. Remember the day when once the Ref counted to 4 it wasn't an option to get to 5. It was either a charged TO or a Automatic 5 Second call....
February 14, 201412 yr You all can over analyze a couple different calls that are pointed out but if you watch the entire tape and nitpick I'm sure you can find some that favored IHM. Bottom line, IHM couldn't finish the Birds off. Best comeback I have ever seen live. In action tonight, Gray bigs were dominant. Not much you can do when Vince Rankin decides to take it strong to the hole, he is atleast 6'1 160lbs. The Bromwell kid has to go 6' 200+. Nobody on Highlands roster is even 5'10 and certainly not 200lbs. Hoping for a growth spurt this off-season because several are due. Great year for Highlands 24-5 record. I'd like to change my call. I guess since I knew it was called an intentional I didnt watch it closely. Didnt foul him hard from behind. Didn't wrap his arms around him.
February 14, 201412 yr Congrats to Woodland's 7th Grade team....not expected to go that far. Good coaching and hustle play. Gray will be a tough team to beat. Highlands and Campbell County had great seasons and had some epic battles this year. 7th grade has been fun to watch on the boys side.

The same ref called a foul on #13 for Conner as intentional. The only thing that makes sense on why it was intentional is the Conner player was behind the CC player but was reaching for the ball. In the Highlands game it seemed King was behind the play and made an attempt at the ball from behind. I think in both instances it was just a hard foul...any foul in my opinion when your trying to stop the clock or somebody from scoring is intentional, they just usually don't call them. Does anyone have a rule book to see what constitutes an intentional foul?

I would agree that is the best approach, Camp Ernst tried it, but Gray went with 3 guards and hit the shots, Woodland is very talented should be another fun final Saturday. Anyone know if they played during the season, if they did what was the result?

The ball is passed to #14 for CC, the video recorder missed the intentional foul part, but I think you see enough to see he was fouling but going for the ball.
February 14, 201412 yr Here is a question I'm going to throw out there. Why don't they tweak the schedule so that the teams who are going to play in the semi's play the same opening night? For instance, both Gray and Woodland won Tuesday, had a day off, and then turned around played teams playing their second game in two days. I'm not saying that is why Highlands and Campbell lost, but they both played a close game on Wednesday and then had to play again on Thursday against a team with one day of rest. If you move the IHM/Highlands game to Tuesday and the Camp Ernst/Woodland game to Wednesday, the semifinals would pit teams playing with the same amount of days off (either 1 or none) against each other. Seems like an easy fix.
