Final Class 6A Rankings for 2013

Featured Replies

With schedules and roles reversed Trinity would be 10 - 0 with at least 8 running clock games. SK would be 0 - 10 with plenty of those games being running clocks against them.

Play the game with me, who could SK beat on Trinity's schedule. It's just an opinion on an opinion board.

I think if the schedule was reversed, the results would be the same for both teams. That is why we have this discussions. But, again if the schedule and results were exactly reversed, people would be saying how powerful Trinity was and how bad Simon Kenton was.

I think Trinity won the games they should have, but lost the games versus the great competition. I think they would have gotten the benefit of the doubt if they would have won a game or two that people didn't expect them to.

I am far from a Trinity hater, in fact, I venture a guess that I am the only person in NEKY that has a Trinity sweatshirt. I just wish they would have gotten that signature win.

I think Ram is making this argument very well.

To stinkyboy's question, I believe Simon Kenton would win 3 against Trinity's schedule. Trinity won 4. That is the problem. I am as big a believer as anyone in strength of schedule as a factor in rankings and that is why I had a hard time with Scott Co. and Simon Kenton being 1 and 2. But the teams with the strong schedule just didn't win enough with perhaps one exception - Male. As I look on the poll today, I think Male is the team that should be #1. I think the thing that knocked them from #1 was that 6-0 win against 2A CAL in their last game.

A valid argument, Male was the District Champion for the "Super District". I just don't see a way for Trinity and/or St. Xavier to be number one in a class in which they finished number two and three, respectively, in their own District.

Once again interested in you all's opinion. Who do you think the 3 Sk wins would be against.

I don't think that can be answered, but you have to admit that if Simon Kenton and Trinity had switched schedules prior to the season, everyone would be saying Trinity was unstoppable and Simon Kenton was just another 6A team that did not have a chance. So, given the information we have, why not say the same with roles reversed?

As we all know, playing a tough, tough schedule just readies you for the playoffs. Doing comparative scores and all is fun, but lets face the facts.

Male, Trinity, St. X and Manual, just by having the luxury of playing against themselves, much less the rest of their schedule, all have an upper hand on anyone that is running around scoring 70 on The Camels, or the Rockets, or some of those 6A schools out in the State.

I saw Simon Kenton play scrimmage St. Xavier and I was impressed with their athletes and with their quarterback. X did not struggle against them at all.

Just making a point that 6-A super district has the upper hand, just not sure whom is going to win it-MALE with all their athletes, or someone else that rises out of the ashes.

Using calpreps.com rankings, Simon Kenton is ranked about even or higher than 3 teams on Trinity's schedule. So if we assume no upsets either way, SK gets three wins. One of the Indiana schools that beat Trinity is ranked #700something. Simon Kenton is ranked #411. I can't recall exactly which three teams were ranked at or below SK.

The other point I will make is everyone keeps hammering on Simon Kenton. The fact is Scott County played a weaker schedule than Simon Kenton. If schedule is so important, than perhaps SK should be #1 (leave it alone uk#1 ... just throwing it out there for discussion).

That's part of my point, is Male, Manual, St. Xavier or Trinity better then Scotty County or Simon Kenton? How do we know which one is? Should we rank all four above Scott County and Simon Kenton just because one of them MAY be better? Those four teams in the "supper district" are good and have done some great things, but we have to rank teams, not districts, and Scott County and Simon Kenton have done all that has been asked of them thus far.

I beg to differ. IF Scott Co & Simon Kenton along with so many others in Kentucky would just step up & play a couple games a year with both in state & out of state good teams, that way everyone would know how good they are or are not! Also by doing this you get the respect in state & nationally if your team is legit.

BTW- Trinity Is not a great team this year but they still were very competitive in all their games with the exception of Moeller. Now as far as Scott co & Simon Kenton goes, Yes I believe if they played T's schedule they both would go 0-10 along with a bunch running clocks. Now do I really know this? No, but if you go with past history it is safe to assume it will happen that way because year after year all these unproven teams run in into Trinity or X & they are Destroyed in the playoff or finals. This has happen even in years where Trinity didn't have greats team.

I'll concede that if you guys will also concede that simply going 10 - 0 against a pitiful schedule doesn't mean your the best team either.

I agree.

Pick one of the four. and you have a winner. It is surely not SK.

Because of previous seasons? You would rip that argument to pieces if the name on the jersey not Simon Kenton.

Those are your expectations. The players, coaches, and school may see things differently. The fact remains, those two teams did what was expected of them. They won their district. They beat everyone on their schedule. Now, we get to see if they can beat the other playoff teams. I don't see how anyone can argue that a team that didn't win their district should be number one in the state.

I think you're missing everyone's point. I don't see any one advocating for T or X, but rather against Simon Kenton and Scott county. It can be argued for Male. But rankings don't even matter, it'll all be settled in about 2 or 3 weeks.

A can agree that their is an argument for other teams to be number one, but the above statement is purely speculative and can not be supported with fact.

In addition, Simon Kenton does not have to beat the tougher competition that Trinity has played.

In the pre-season St. Xavier was the team to beat, Trinity beat them, so Trinity is the team to beat, but Male beat them, so Male is the team to beat, then Manual beat them. Who is the team to beat now?

Just because they all beat each other up doesn't mean that they ALL aren't better than SK or SC. Kinda like playing in the SEC. Do you really believe that in years when there are teams with undefeated records or 1-loss records are better than SEC teams with 2-3 loss records. There are many years that the top 3 teams in the SEC could have won a National Championship if it weren't for the SEC schools ahead of them.

But they didn't even get a chance to play in the title game. And what happened in those title games? Blowouts! It would have been more competitive to play the second or third place team from the SEC. Same Scenario here.

Although, I do feel SC is much further along than SK. Their history tells us so. And their convincing wins over their weak schedule vs. SK slipping by their weak schedule. Plus the convincing wins from last year. I believe both teams returned several players.

What would SK's record be if it were in the "mega district"?

Really??? If that were the case, I would say this T team was unproven and untested. Yes, they may have carried a little more respect because of the name and their history, but still would have questioned them.

But the difference is...T would NEVER schedule like that! EVER! Neither would X, Male, BG, JHardin, HHS, Cov Cath, NCC, Beechwood, Mayfield, Boyle, Central, etc. Get my point!

We can say that saying SK would be winless against T's schedule is speculation, but I bet if you did a poll of BGPer's that have seen them and their competition play this year, the only ones that would say they'd have a win would be their fans. They would be 3-4 TD underdogs to EVERY team on T's schedule. I hate to say it that way, but it's the truth. You can say speculation all you want. We know who they are playing. They slipped by Conner (who got smashed by Cov Cath), Dixie and Collins. If you are saying SK would have a chance at a win against and of T's schedule, you are saying so do those teams. If anyone thinks any of those teams could even compete (not win) with ANY of the teams on T's schedule, you are delirious. The Louisville teams are just on a different level than our NKY 6A teams right now.
