Congrats to the Royals. I know comparing scores can be dangerous but when team A beats team C by 50 while team B beats C by 5 you automatically think team A is a heavy favorite. That's why they don't play the game on paper.

We thought Scott was very good and nothing we saw tonight changed our opinion. We were both walking a fine line of trying to win but also not get our kids beat up in a physical game.

 

The 2013 Scott Eagles are well coached and a very good team. Nothing about tonight changes that.

Good news is their D1 stud Timmons and their D1 QB Woodside are gone. Think positive.

Very entertaining game. Both teams made several miscues that could have either pushed Mason to a bigger lead or gotten Scott back into the game.

 

Scott looked like a team that has a hard time playing catch-up; extremely limited playbook. Castleman did have 140+ rushing yards; the QB was 6-10 with about 80 yards passing. Play of the game - O'Mara standing in the pocket and throwing a strike to Tee King, 75-yard TD reception. Also nice to see family friend Drew Spangler with another TD reception. O-line did their job late giving Nelson enough room to drive down the field and score the clincher with just under 2 minutes to play.

 

Good test for the Royals heading into the playoffs.

 

This was a huge play, and probably the difference in the game. It was 3rd and 25 or 30 after a facemask was called on the QB as he was being sacked on the previous play. Scott gets that stop, and the ball in decent field position, could have been a different game. Scott had all the momentum at that time, so it was likely a 14 point swing.

 

Once again Scott shot itself with too many penalties, that created too many 3rd and longs. Scott's struggles in the passing game and stopping the pass has been an issue in all three losses.

 

Mason County is a solid team, and has the pieces to make a nice run.

It's great to finally make that trip and have a shot at winning. Despite the last three losses, this is still a decent team. A team with flaws, but a decent team. In each of the losses, they had chances to win late. What has killed Scott in each of these games has been the inability to make a big play on either side of the ball in the passing game, and penalties. The long ball has especially hurt them. A long pass play has been what's put each game out reach.

 

I now the schedule issue has been and will continue to get brought up. And it is what it is. Could mixing in another tough team or two have helped....probably. But given the history (or lack thereof), this schedule was perfect for them in this stage of building a program. There excitement in town about football for the first time ever (despite the few fans who continue to rip every Scott coach in every sport despite fielding competitive teams). The middle school program just won a championship, beating Cov Cath twice along the way. They need to continue the course to build numbers and keep the excitement going. Once they prove they can compete consistently, then the schedule can be upgraded little by little. While it's true you can't cut your teeth on oatmeal, it can certainly help you build strength and get healthier, especially while you are growing.
