Ryle 42 Covington Catholic 21 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Most Freshman players are also multi-sport athletes. They have been working in many cases since last Spring. A nine game schedule for their age group is very sufficient. In the case of Ryle and I'll bet Cov. Cath. several of these young athletes will transition right into Basketball or Wrestling at the end of October for another three months of activity, and then many will transition into Track or Baseball in March. That combined with keeping up their academics ( which is very demanding at both schools) makes for a very full year. Don't you agree ? The last thing the ADULTS need to do is burn them out. Those who have played know that Football at any level is very demanding. A Championship game at that level may only be necessary if the two teams did not meet during the regular season (i.e. Beechwood/Ryle last year) The old guy equates High School to the Super Bowl, World Series, etc. Let's face it that is only done to produce more revenue. The almighty $ should not govern the amount of playing time. State Championships in High School ? sure, but 15 to 16 games in football? 30 to 40 games in Basketball? 40-50 games in Baseball. How much is too much?

Covington Catholic will play Ryle again in two week at I assume at Ryle with the date and time to be determined for the Freshmen Championship game.

Looks like CCH dug themselves into a deep hole, came all the way back to make it a one score game in the 4th and then ran out of gas.

Future is bright for both teams.

NO way now if you don't want to play a championship game then fine but this is high school football and your season should be 10 games. the shame is when so many teams get canceled on. They work just as hard as the varsity kids do and deserve to play a full schedule whether it be the 10th game be a championship game or another regular season game. Trust me the other sports will play plenty of games as well.

Then why not have a four team playoff for the Championship. Middle school does it.

I agree this would be the best choice. However, two things work against this. The limitation of no games past the last varsity game and more importantly a limit of 10 frosh games. Most schools didn't want to only schedule 8 games in the "regular Season" with the chance they wouldn't be in the top 4. The tried the "two Tier" playoff top 4 and bottom 4 and no one in the bottom 4 played.

The compromise was the two teams with the best record met for a "Championship" game.

This way everyone can schedule 9 games and keep the 10th open for a final game if you choose. Not a great solution, but it was the only thing that most of the schools would agree to.

Yes - dug a 21-0 hole. Had two opportunities to score in first half which both ended in int's. should have been 21-14 at worst. But that's the old woulda coulda shoulda game.

Defense just did not get Ryle off the field. Had a shot to get the ball and tie the score down 28-21 when Ryle had a 4th and long - but the QB scrambled out and they punched it in from there.

The Championship game date has always been on everyone's schedule.

What about Ryle's 2 fumbles on their 1st 2 opportunities? Could've also easily been 35-0 early.

Looks like Ryle will be really good in the next few years.....:D

Are they getting a new varsity staff?

shocked by this one. How did Ryle score so many points, passing or running?

Because Ryle is that good. I expected Ryle to win by 2 TD's and they did even better in winning by 3. Ryle has been completely dominating people all season. Cov Cath will get another shot at them in the title game but I don't think CCH can beat them.

Didnt see you post anything in the 10 page JV cancellation thread...LOL

LOL, Freddies are begging for 9-10 games and the JV plays 4...Just sayin

One word comes to mind regarding the CovCath football program...Karma..:thumb:

I agree and think it is awful that the Cov.. Cath JV kids are being sslighted like that. All that hard work through the winter and hot summers for 4 ballgames is sad.

Not Logical if the two top teams have already played. Do not mean this to be "snarkey" but if you want Ryle to play a championship game, find an opponent that they have not already defeated. I believe that it has worked that way in the past.

No one else has any chance at all versus Ryle. Cov Cath is pretty clearly the second best team. If I were Ryle, I would want to play CCH again to prove to any doubters that we are the best freshman team.
