October 11, 201313 yr Wow, never knew you were so optimistic UKMF. If they hire Price, there will be complaints day one and he will be gone within two years if they don't make a World Series. Not if he can do what the others couldn't. Advance in the playoffs. Thats all the Toothpick needed to do this year.
October 11, 201313 yr Same here. Also, you have to figure they wouldn't be dealing those kinda guys (Phillips, Bailey, etc) for prospects that are a few years away from the show. They'd be making deals for guys that can help win immediately, so the (negative) impact wouldn't be as great as it's being made out to be. Well on the flip side, the Reds reportedly have interest in 26 year old Cuban 2B Alexander Guerrero. Curious if the Reds will legitimately pursue him. He was close to a 5 year, $32 million deal with the Angels until it fell apart.
October 12, 201313 yr How in the world can you make that assertion? You have no clue how guys would respond without mamby pamby leadership. Players manager, stupid. Why not have a guy with some sack who will stand up for his guys? Matheny doesn't rant and rave like a lunatic, but stands up for his guys. He has a level of expectation (and so do his players, I fully understand that) but it's not like the Reds are going to revamp the roster. Have to start somewhere, and the only place is in the first chair in the dugout. If Price is the guy, I hope he has something not evident as pitching coach. Its simple, the players shouldnt need a manger to "light a fire under them." Where not talking about High School kids. This is the pros, if you can't get your self up, go home and take a pill and get off the field.

October 12, 201313 yr MLB players are human just like you and I. There are downs and there are ups, they need a manager who is able to manage the players through those downs and not let them get too high. Dusty's attitude was always with the players, he never had control of them in them in the clubhouse. That was my biggest issue
October 12, 201313 yr I'd prefer that to a tired retread. THIS! Never understand why professional teams do that time and time again in all sports. Get some fresh blood in there.
October 12, 201313 yr The thoughts of Paul O'neill in the dugout running the show excites me. Anyone else? I'd love to see someone with some fire. I miss Lou. I miss Davey Johnson. Agreed, I'd be happy with that.
October 12, 201313 yr It wouldn't bother me as much if they dealt Cueto and/or Bailey' date=' but I'd be pretty upset if the moved Latos.[/quote'] I think they would have to get one hell of a deal to ship out Latos. I don't see that happening.
October 14, 201313 yr According to Peter Gammons, Jim Riggleman is the top candidate....:banghead: Although, Gammons also mentions that Riggleman is a big proponent of "advanced statistics" and would be a major change from Dusty....:idunno:
October 14, 201313 yr Riggleman has been in the Reds' system the past two years - Pensacola (AA) in 2012 and Louisville last year. He is a career .445 manager and walked away from the Nationals in midseason 2011 with a winning record when they wouldn't talk contract extension. He has managed one full season of MLB since 1999. And he does use tons of stats for matchups, etc.

Talk to Jim Tracy. He's just up the street. Drop a dime and bring him in for an interview. Heck, I'd rather have price (or Dusty) than Riggleman.
October 14, 201313 yr .......... Everything I'm hearing is it is still going to be Bryan Price. I think Riggelman would be a substantial step back, and I'm a guy (one of the few, I understand) that thinks Dusty should have been retained anyway.
October 15, 201313 yr Riggleman. Stupid. I'd take Price over Riggleman hands down. Might as well call him Wrongman. Amirite?
