October 11, 201313 yr Yes his guys would, but not the guys on this team, there is a big difference. How in the world can you make that assertion? You have no clue how guys would respond without mamby pamby leadership. Players manager, stupid. Why not have a guy with some sack who will stand up for his guys? Matheny doesn't rant and rave like a lunatic, but stands up for his guys. He has a level of expectation (and so do his players, I fully understand that) but it's not like the Reds are going to revamp the roster. Have to start somewhere, and the only place is in the first chair in the dugout. If Price is the guy, I hope he has something not evident as pitching coach.
October 11, 201313 yr Then I hope that they get a piece that is significant. I would expect Bailey to get dealt as well, or Latos, or Cueto, but I doubt they start 2014 with all three of them. Bailey appears to be the most likely. Potentially Bryan Price has a Redlegs club with no Arroyo, no Choo, no Bailey, and no Phillips. Yet he'll be KILLED when they win 75 games.

They're making a big mistake if they go with Price IMO.

October 11, 201313 yr I understand the difficulty in retaining Choo, but I'd hate for the Reds to not have those three starting pitchers. This organization just can't have a $10 million #3 starter. Unfortunate, but where we are (especially with $20+ million at 1st base).

October 11, 201313 yr It wouldn't bother me as much if they dealt Cueto and/or Bailey, but I'd be pretty upset if the moved Latos. Same here. Also, you have to figure they wouldn't be dealing those kinda guys (Phillips, Bailey, etc) for prospects that are a few years away from the show. They'd be making deals for guys that can help win immediately, so the (negative) impact wouldn't be as great as it's being made out to be.

Go to MLB.com (transactions, by month) for last year's off-season and find me one trade where the players going both ways were ML caliber. VERY seldom happens. Hard to get great players in return when all of major league baseball knows: a) your owner loathes your second-baseman; b) you really need to deal the pitcher for financial reasons. Very little chance Latos would be dealt....close to zero.
October 11, 201313 yr Just a prediction....If they hire Price, we'll be having this same thread within 3 years. Wow, never knew you were so optimistic UKMF. If they hire Price, there will be complaints day one and he will be gone within two years if they don't make a World Series.
October 11, 201313 yr I'm not a fan of this hire either, but you have to admit it's a wait and see thing. We may also be having a thread wondering what took so long for him to get the position in the first place in 11 months. I guess I should have read the next post. The Price complaints are starting before day one.

October 11, 201313 yr UKMF ... how many wins would you expect from a Reds team with no Arroyo, Choo, Bailey or Phillips? Depends on who the replacements are. No way should a team with the likes of Latos, Cueto, Leake, Cingrani, Chapman, Marshall, Bruce, and Votto finish under .500 though.
October 11, 201313 yr I guess I should have read the next post. The Price complaints are starting before day one. I think Price should stay right where he's at. Pitching coach who has been wonderful. No more, no less.
