HHS doesn't play Trinity so the fans from the wannabes can have their fun each year. Who wants to ruin that?

For the same reasons Bowling Green and Scott County and Cincy St. X and Elder have elected not to play Trinity.

Here's a list:

I thought it was a legitimate question.

 

It's been asked and answered every year for the probably the last 5 years or more. I could have told you the responses before they were even made.

Can we leave the discussion here to Trinity and Highlands playing?

 

If Bowling Green played Trinity this year instead of St. X and St. X beats Trinity, we'd probably be having the same conversation about "why Bowling Green wouldn't play St. Xavier to see who the best team in the state is".

 

 

I think it'd be great for Kentucky High School Football to see Trinity and Highlands square off each year. Louisville versus Northern Kentucky. Hold it at Papa John's one year and try to get a venue like Nippert or Paul Brown Stadium (as part of a Shoot-Out type deal where there were other games that day/weekend to help with costs) when it was Highland's turn to host.

 

With that said, I think it's a very good point that if Trinity is going to travel to Northern Kentucky to play anyway, they might as well go across the river and take on an Elder, Moeller, or someone else. The fact of it is, on the national scene, that win would mean more to Trinity than a win over Highlands would. Trinity is a bigger school, so they'd be expected to beat Highlands. They have everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing from my perspective.

Just wondering, but how do Trinity's cheerleaders work? Are they all usually from one sister school exclusively or do they take members from a number of different sister schools (i.e., more than one of the parochial schools)?

This may or may not come as a surprise but I just went back in my private message archives and pm #4 back in Jan was from Dale and he said Bob Beatty called him and wanted to play this yr.

 

I was suppose to get back to Dale within 24 hrs with my thoughts of a game between H&T and if he didnt hear from me then it was a NO.

I don't believe distance is an issue. Trinity and Highlands both make longer trips throughout the season. Plus, I'm sure T wants to keep playing other out of state powers & Highlands wants to keep the game with one of the GCL teams, but, why couldn't they do both. From Highlands standpoint, they'd most likely play T orX in the 1st 2-3 weeks of the season and the GCL game 3-4 weeks later. As far as T goes, continue to play a Tn power, a GCL school and maybe just 1 of the Indiana teams instead of 2 and replace the other with Highlands. Seems to me they could easily make it work and still maintain everything else they're trying to accomplish.

The argument that Highlands dodges Trinity during the regular season in order to avoid being labeled second fiddle to Trinity is puzzling to me. From 2010 until this year, Highlands has scrimmaged Trinity, and in all but one of those years (2010) Trinity handled Highlands pretty convincingly. If Highlands was so concerned about the appearance of playing runner-up to Trinity, then wouldn't it make more sense for Highlands to avoid any kind of game or competition with Trinity, in order to avoid the head-to-head comparison?

 

As others have written, Highlands plays a top-tier Cincinnati school almost every year, and Highlands is almost always the underdog in these games. Given how impressive Trinity has been in the recent past (heck, they won the MNC two years ago), wouldn't it "look better" for Highlands to play and probably lose against Trinity during the regular season, than to play and probably lose against a program like Elder???
