I am not saying they should be dominating people because freshman results don't automatically mean wins on varsity (as Ryle is proving). However, freshman results are a statement of pure talent. Usually, the teams with talent win at the freshman level. If winning isn't happening at the varsity level, it isn't for lack of talent.

 

Another point with the lack of delevopment in Raider land .... Conner Hempel QB for 3 yrs, graduates and nobody there to take his spot after he graduates, a transfer came in, correct? Elliot RB goes down in a game, no back up waiting to step in. Coaching is about developing players to be able to step in at a moments notice.

As you stated, there is no garuntee that a good Freshman team will translate to a good Varsity team, but more times than not the talent does translate to the Varsity level.

 

Cooper's senior class last year went undefeated as Freshman and it translated into a State Title game. Beechwood's Freshman class and Ryles were very good last year, I'd be willing to bet Beechwood in 2 years will be more succesful than Ryle, not because I think Beechwood had more talent, but because of the way they develop their players.

The Union Raider rise that at first Bryson didn't sponsor but later did, didn't pay off how he thought it would have necessarily, with parties going in diff directions.

Not exactly sure how Ryle handles it but going from Freshman team where the coaches only are concerned about that team to the Varsity and JV level things change. I have seen where the players on Varsity getting 80-90% of the reps during practice. Then on Saturdays they just throw players out on the field for JV game. No game plan no development of players Very few coaches show up for the JV game if it is an away game the Varsity coach is not present as he is doing the Varsity game film. The feeder programs work great through the freshman class then there is a breakdown for most players their sophomore and Junior years. No one works on getting them better and ready to step up to the next level. If the kid is good as a freshman but does not have the personal drive to improve there is no one there to push him. I have seen a lot of teams that almost every coach there main concern is the starters and maybe a couple of key reserves. Very few coaches are looking at what is coming up the next year and making sure they are ready to step in.

Dealt with the same issue at Dixie for quite a while. A change happened at the varsity level and so far this year Dixie is having some success. Albeit this is the new regime's second year at the helm.

Does Ryle need a new ship captain? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......................YES! They do less with more than anyone in the northern part of the state..

Ryles ship is no where close to being uprighted anytime soon.

From the looks of the Grant Cty Mafia, maybe Ryle should look a little south in Coach Kevin Siple. If they think he is the problem there, I'm sure he would love to have the talent to work with that Ryle has year in and year out. You want to see a program take off!
