I am surprised no one has mentioned Jefferson County. Male, Manual, Butler, Ballard, PRP, Central, Eastern ... every one of those would be favored in a match up with Scott. If you line them up in order - Male is ranked higher than SK; Manual higher than Dixie; Butler better than Scott.

 

Fayette County also should be discussed in comparison to Kenton - Bryan Station, Henry Clay and Tates Creek. I take Kenton County's three over those three but what does everyone else think.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not touting Scott or Dixie as top teams in the state (although I think SK is top 10 for sure- # 3 or #4 in 6A) yet, just that this group has had a strong start and records can't be argued. We can talk about SOS all we want but the schedule is what it is and is often based on what a school was doing when the contract was written years ago.

To be fair, SK has played up in most of their games. Scott I think may be the one team that has played opponents in smaller classes so far.

 

They haven't played up, or even, in ANY of their games. 2 2A, 1 4A, 2 5A. However, it is an improvement over prior years. Still, I think if they wanted to they could find some 6A games before district.

Huh? Holy Cross and NC are AA schools. Collins is 4A, Cooper and Conner are 5A. What do you mean by "played up"?

Agreed. But A and AA schools? As large as SK and Dixie are they should be banging on the door of D1 OH schools. Not necessarily GCL or Colerain but someone that is closer to X and Trinity. Heck, even some 6A schools down in KY would be better than Holy Cross, NewCath and Beechwood.

Honestly cannot have any topic on this site giving credit to another school without a Highlands fan posting, "look at us".

In theory, yes. Again, there is no incentive for larger Ohio schools with playoff hopes to play Kentucky schools. And while it sounds good to play 6A schools out of the area, travel is not cheap, and while no one will say it, costs are a factor. Convenience and proximity really does come into play. There aren't any other 5 or 6a schools within an hour of NKY, and Cov Cath, Highlands and Holmes are the only 4a, and there are no 3a schools. I really believe if the large NKY schools completely stop playing the smaller local schools, they would have a tough time getting games. 3 years ago, when Bellevue broke their contract with Scott, Scott couldn't find anyone to play and ended up with a 9 game season.

I like that they schedule Cooper and Conner. BW isn't a bad game to schedule either. You want teams that will challenge you but not destroy you. A Colerain for instance would be a mistake.

Come on, several NKY teams every year manage to find larger OH schools to play and SK traveled to Collins to open the season. They could find the games if they wanted to.

So then who does Beechwood, New Cath and the other small schools get to play. You're still talking about a lot of travel, that is really unnecessary. Let's face it, with the way the playoffs are structured, non district play means nothing, and games get scheduled out of convenience rather than need. And yes a few NKY teams do play top Cincy teams (Highlands, Cov Cath and Ryle) but they are typically the top NKY teams. No way Elder, or a good GCL team goes out of their way to play SK, Dixie or Scott. Nothing in it for them, as strength of schedule does mean something for Ohio's playoff system.

 

If you look at it, NKY teams play pretty much a regional schedule, with maybe one longer trip out of region. It's no different for the Louisville or Lexington teams. They play mostly a local regional schedule with a longer trip outside of their region. It's just that there are more large schools in those areas.
