I've said it before and I will say it again, a 6A program looking to get better can do so without playing T or X. As a matter of fact they shouldn't play either if they don't have to. To say the only way to prepare for them is to play them just isn't accurate. There are plenty of out of state programs you can play that will prepare your team. T and X are only special in KY, in Ohio or TN their just another team.

 

That said if I was T I wouldn't waste my time playing KY 6A schools they didn't have to play. There's nothing for them to gain in it.

T can handle themselves just fine out of state and in an "Independent League" but X would be in a whole bunch of trouble for a while anyhow. JMO

In Tennessee T and X wouldn't even be in 6A. T and X should keep playing private schools and a power team schedule.

Everyone is entitled to their own, but X has been competitive in every oos game they've played.

T is already afraid to play KY teams until district play. How much more can they hide? Lol

I hate to beat on a dead horse here because I think Trinity is #1, but Bowling Green has played either Trinity or X for 9 straight years. That kind of coincides with the change in the Bowling Green program. (spread offense, then 2 platoon system)

Call me crazy but my dream for down here would be for Graves and Mayfield to consolidate and play Trinity. I know that eventually they would have the right mix and come some cold, wet November night.......

That's fair. No denying there are problems. And I don't think it comes from a flat-out refusal to play anyone and certainly not from some kind of boycott on Trinity's part. All that boycotting nonsense came from the other side.

 

But I'll say this: I remember the schedule my senior year at Trinity and, not including St. X, the team played three non-district games against AAAA Kentucky competition: North Hardin (44-0), Fern Creek (52-0) and Eastern (57-0). Is that really what the fans of either school want to see?

Those games were AWFUL to watch. Some teams we have played over the years because of our district, were woefully overmatched. And on top of that, the lack of support I saw at some of those games by our opponents community literally brought me to tears. I remember playing Southern at Southern. The team had a small roster, but they gave it everything they had. I'll bet there weren't 20 fans on the home side of the stadium. I absolutely hated that we had to play them. Not because I was "elitist", but because it was so very apparent that these kids and coaches had no support from their own families and friends.

Boone county has been platooning sense the late 80's not everything in NKY football comes from Highlands.

Play T in the regular season or playoffs the up and coming 6A team gets wacked either way. T plays the cat and all the other 6A non private schools are the mouse, there is no shock at this point everyone knows their role.

Is it just me or has have the 6A JCPS school declined since the early to mid 90s. I remember when St. X would play Fern Creek and those game we pretty intense and exciting. I was also in about 3rd grade, but has JCPS declined that much.

 

6A NEEDS Male to step it up. If Male can get back to being what they used to be then the district games will be that much more important.

 

Back to the question, if I was a head coach I would not play X or T until I had to. Less knowledge they have on you the better chance you have. But as a coach, if you a program that is on the rise and want to see just where you are then you need to schedule one of them just like BG has done since 2005.

 

But until that point, I would say don't play them because it's a confidence killer.
