Philadelphia 33 Washington 27

Final.

RG3 really settled down and got in rhythm toward the end of this one, and made a nice comeback.

Philly sets an NFL record by running 53 plays in the first half. Looks like the Chip Kelly era is off and running.

The score might have only been 6 points but Philly was clearly in the drivers seat. I would expect that every other NFL team will be examining how to slow down that offense.

I know the first Washington TD was hard to overturn based on the camera view but if they didn't score there Philly could have had an even bigger lead.

Looked to me like Washington figured it out in the 2nd half.

They may have, but Vick was not very accurate in the 2nd half. Missed some open receivers by 5 yards plus, and completely didn't see some that were wide open. But that could have been due to changes in the D.

ESPN radio on the way to class this morning (~10 am Central) was mentioning that they thought Philly took their foot off the gas somewhat late in the 3rd. Anyone agree or disagree?

Vick looked like the league MVP in the first half. Is there a chance the convicted felon could win the MVP award? Chip Kellys' offense will put up amazing stats.

After thinking about this some more, I dont think they took their foot off the gas as much as Washington seemed to adjust better. Their offense seemed to start clicking. However, I still think that first half established the tone of Philly being in control throughout.

One of the best ways to slow down Philly's offense is by your offense playing well. In the first half Washington's offense sucked and kept giving the ball back to Philly. In the second half Washington's offense did better and gave the defense more of a break.

They barely won, the defense got tired, remember NFL games are longer, and thats a ton of defense to play for either team. NFL teams dont condition like other levels more strength and interval stuff. Also no one had seen any of what he was planning this year, each game will get tougher, and Vick is not durable. I think he will win, but it will be tough to get through the long year. Other teams will play better as well.

NFL games are longer? Same quarter length and the game time is considerably shorter because of the lack of stopping the clock on first downs, etc. The problem with this offensive style is that the rosters are much smaller in the NFL. The games are shorter. They may last as long because of media timeouts but you play less total minutes of actual game time.

And some of the stuff he does will be a challenge for NFL teams to defend. The packaged plays are stuff the college guys struggle defending (there may be no good answer) and they're way better than NFL guys at stopping all of the spread option stuff because they've have a decade of experience with it.

Also if you're Philly don't you keep Tebow in mind as a backup?

Washington offense played better the second half, obviously. The Eagles ran 77 plays the whole game which was tied for 3rd with the Lions behind The Pats with 89 and the Ravens with 87. The Eagles will be near the top in number of plays for the year, but New England will win the play count if their games are close, sometimes, they usually just pour it on though.. The Eagles seemed to slow it down some also, I don't know why other than they may have been trying to protect a huge lead or they may have gtten fatigued. The Eagles are nuch improved, it looks like. They have a chance in this relatively weak division.

No because he can't throw well enough for the offense. If Vick goes down the other QBs will just run more packaged plays then reads.
