Here are some details I have heard on this one:

 

- Box score on Maxpreps says Noblesville led 14-0 at halftime and then Johnson Central scored 69 points in the 3rd quarter. That can't be right, can it?

 

- Noblesville's QB is said to have thrown for over 400 yards in the game.

 

- Matney reportedly had his team kneel on an extra point and attempted a 52 yard and 60 yard field goal on first down. The sophomore kicker made the 52 yard field goal.

 

What is right and what is wrong in that report? Any other details on happenings from the tilted view of football from Matney?

From what I gather JC scored early and often and subbed early and often. The Noblesville QB did throw for a ton of yard but the majority came against the JC JV and Freshman. Johnson Central supposedly could score basically any time they wanted, even with their subs in, so Matney started attempting the long field goals as a way to keep the score down without having to take a knee while getting some semblance of useful reps. Supposedly Matney actually did everything he could to limit inflated stats and scoring for once. Believe it or not HAHA.

 

 

This was a team of home schooled kids... literally... not making this up. Game should have never happened in the first place.

HAHA would have to think so.... cant verif for sure..but reports are that JC was scoring from the onset

This game never appeared on the schedule. It mysteriously appeared on the KHSAA site on Friday night. More than ten schools don't have full schedules and at least two have/had the same open dates as Johnson Central. This has to be one of the oddest successful programs, not just in Kentucky, but everywhere.

Not saying it's true, but it was reported Noblesville contacted Johnson Central and wanted to schedule this game due to difficulty in finding games. But, who knows.

I've got a hunch football might not be the sport for them.

I kie teams playing out of state but see no reason for a good school to play a team from another country.

With school budgets being slashed and athletic programs being limited in travel due to bus/fuel costs, it just really confuses me that Johnson Central feels the need to play some of the teams they do. As mentioned above, plenty of available schools in-State and much closer than Indiana school and the team from Canada. I am not taking anything away from JC, they have a very nice team and they do play tougher non-District teams as well but Matney is a little more than a complex individual.

With that said, their schedule thusfar has been painfully weak. I their defense, they are just trying to play whoever will play them. Sheldon Clark dropped them at the last minute (although Sheldon Clark is awful this year as well) and supposedly JC reached out to several teams with similar open weeks and were told "we'd rather not", one of them being Shelby County.

Not arguing any of that but this game is a different set of circumstances and has nothing to do with any Matney's complexities.

 

In this particular case Johnson Central ended up with two open dates because Sheldon Clark cancelled their game very late after most all KY schools had their schedules set. JC tried to find a KY opponent and put out feelers in 5 states trying to fill the date and no luck. If you have ever been involved in scheduling, particularly that late in the game, then you understand the hurdles that exist.

 

So Johnson Central had accepted the fact that they were going to have 2 open dates when they were surprised by a phone call from a representative from Noblesville who wanted to come play the Eagles. It was a blessing just to get an opponent, even if it wasn't the ideal opponent.

That is encouraging to hear. Its a shame they couldn't play someone like Shelby County. It does seem like they always end up with a random opponent or two on their schedule. Canadian teams, Mississippi teams, Indiana home-school teams, etc. I understand they are a really big school in an area that is full of little schools, which can complicate scheduling. But are they unable to get games with Kentucky schools because they are too good or is it because their coach isn't loved?
