September 16, 201313 yr I would say Marvin grades low in the eyes of many due to how long he has had the gig so all of his weaknesses are brought to the forefront more so than his strengths. But of all the longer tenured coaches or at least those who have coached in the NFL for a longer period for more than 1 team (Jeff Fisher, Andy Reid, Pete Carrol, etc.) his resume is probably the weakest. This season though is put up or shut up. Not saying he has to win the title, but going home first round is unacceptable and I think grounds for termination.
September 16, 201313 yr Stat I heard today, Marvin is 1-10 at home vs the Steelers in his tenure. His only win came in the season they went 6-0 against the division.

Shoot I d be the first to say if the Bengals made it to the AFCCG this year it was a successful year. I know it isn't the SB but its a start. The bengals haven't sniffed it in decades.
September 16, 201313 yr Author Being one of I believe 4 or 5 teams in the whole NFL to make the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 years says otherwise on how easy it is to make the playoffs. Especially with all the parity in this league with how bad teams could turn good rather quickly. To be now a consistent playoff team with its current foundation is an accomplishment for this franchise. However they do need to take that next step, and that might not be with Marvin. I agree he should have been fired after 2008 and 2010. Now if he doesn't take the team to the next step this year, then once again I believe he should be fired too. How many of the 12 playoff teams last year weren't there the year before?
September 17, 201313 yr Actually in a weird kind of way....yes. Also don't forget that Marvin had some atrocious years too. Every team goes into their season with 1 goal, to win a SB. So I ask you, what is the difference in not making the playoffs or losing in your first playoff game? In the big picture, there is no difference. This isn't like only 4 teams make the playoffs each year out of 32. A third of the teams make the playoffs, so unlike some on here, to me making the playoffs isn't some great stretch nor should it ever feel like an amazing accomplishment. For Bengals fans I can understand how they think and feel that making back to back playoffs is awesome, but many teams make back to back playoffs...don't fool yourself as if it is something that hardly occurs. When your goal is to win a Super Bowl, there really isn't any difference in the success of the bengals in the 90's and the success of the bengals in the 2000's so far. Being competitive in most every game you play, and getting to the playoffs so you at least give your team a puncher's chance to win the Super Bowl is far different from the Akili Smith, et. al years. That's just how I look at it. And again, no one has really addressed the Mike Brown/free agent question. You can't really say with a straight face that Cincinnati's organization has the types of things that other teams can offer when recruiting free agents, hence the reason they take chances on marginal fringe players with character issues such as Adam "Pacman" Jones, etc. The past few years, the Bengals have had some nice drafts as well. Take a look at Giovanni Bernard & Tyler Eifert this year and get back to me once the season plays out. Look at the team waiting and taking Dalton a few years back too.

I am of the opinion that Bengals fans should be careful for what they wish for, they could do much worse than Marvin, and if he were fired, I really wonder if the person replacing him could/would do much better.
September 17, 201313 yr Greg Schiano Good choice. The whole dust-up during the taking-a-knee/conceding last year, as well as the issues with Freeman this year make me wonder how much control he really has over his squad.
September 17, 201313 yr Author I think with Marvin Lewis once again showing his great clock management in the last 2 mins of the half on MNF lrunning the ball 3 times to wastge a minute off the clock before going downfiels solitifies him as the worst coach in the NFL. Case closed.
September 17, 201313 yr Marvin Lewis, hands down, is the worst coach in the NFL. If he was coaching anywhere other than Cincinnati, he would have been fired years ago.
September 23, 201312 yr I think I am going to stick with Tom Coughlin. I think Coughlin gets a pass this week. His younger brother fell getting out of a cab coming home from the Giants/Broncos game and died from injuries. I'm sure his mind was elsewhere. The team...doesn't get that excuse.
September 23, 201312 yr Lewis is not "hands down" the worst coach. As a Cowboys fan, I can't understand how they can look so bad at times with all that talent. I hate to say it but Jason Garrett HAS to be in the conversation. Greg Schiano has to be mentioned. Jeff Fisher is no great shakes. I was at the "music city miracle" game. After he lost that game for them...and that's what he did, I decided he wasn't much of s coach as far as I was concerned. if you don't like Marvin, then you can't like Fisher I don't think. Whoever Oaklands coach is this week. Lane Kiffen. I know he's not in the NFL...but gosh he terrible.
