Don't sprain your ankle jumping to conclusions Malachi. I wasn't being passive aggressive, I was genuinely asking a question. While I don't think they should begin working on Marvin's bust in Canton, I think these comments about him being in the bottom three are a knee-jerk reaction to the pathetic form showed by the Bengals last weekend (and deservedly so). Heck, if they whack the Steelers this week, there will be knuckle-heads in the 'Burgh calling for Tomlin's head next week. I think Marvin works under the most difficult set of circumstances (perhaps outside of Dallas) in the NFL. Miserly organization, owner universally loathed in his own town, and until 3 or 4 years ago, Marvin couldn't even have a dominant say in personnel. I think you would have to agree that the Bengals drafts the last 3 or 4 years have been among the best in the NFL, and while Duke Tobin deserves much of that credit, Marvin does as well. Lastly, I wouldn't call two trips to the playoffs in back-to-back years, albeit with a rookie QB (and obviously then again in his 2nd year) "mediocre". I think Marvin and Duke (and to a lesser degree Katie and Troy) have done a great job building a roster with skill, youth, and depth. If this team misses the playoffs I'd say any all criticism heaped upon Marvin is probably fair. I just get tired of the incessant Marvin and Dusty banging in Cincinnati, it is tired at this point. If the Reds fire Dusty they'll likely give it to Jim Riggelman...I'd prefer Dusty. If they fire Marvin, anyone who thinks they are going to go break the bank to bring in Gruden or Cowher are insane. They won't. I know this, I like this staff a TON more than Coslet, Shula, LeBeau (as a HC), etc. I also like this roster more than nearly any of them (top to bottom, with obvious exceptions) dating back to the last Super Bowl appearance.
September 14, 201313 yr There is not another organization in the NFL that would have kept Marvin as HC. 79-81-1 is as mediocre as it gets. Yep hes made it to the playoffs a couple time to post an impressive 0-4 record. No issue here, it's good enough for you, and it's not good enough for me.
