Can a kid be ruled ineligible for attending open gym?

Since you mentioned it and I haven't looked it up yet, what would that be?

Changes in coach contact and practice parameters that had to be "hands off" and termed open gym previously.

Really? With all the transferring that goes on and kids ruled eligible, you think the KHSAA is going to restrict eligibility because of an open gym.

Good luck with that Mr. Louisville area high school basketball coach.

It's nice to know you can play one on one with a scoreboard being operated.

No. 2 on permitted scenarios could make the pickup games Walter setup as illegal. Walter, not the players, set it up and Walter could be considered an event organizer.

I think it's stupid, but that's way I would read it.

I was thinking the same thing. Walter mentioned his event was invite only and the kids would get 'exposure' from attending this event. He had the NCC starting 5 and the Holmes starting 5 attending along with many others. Especially if someone perceived him as a promoter with his involvement with court vision and ?

Let the kids play.

No coaches were going to be present from my understanding. Just a very nice array of talent hooking up to play some hoops.

Thought I seen Rod Snapp there one night, could be wrong.

(1) Any play involving more than two (2) people at a time where score is kept, either among the players, on a flip scoreboard, digital scoreboard, or using any other device.

So does this mean a game of 2 on 2 to 10 points is technically illegal?

Never understood why basketball kids cant play five on five or attend skills camp that allows five on five in the off season during school prior to the start of the season. Volleyball and soccer can play club ball at the same time as their season. Baseball teams playing fall ball now. Why not basketball?

I don't have a problem with the kids playing each other but I do believe these open gyms were in a very grey area and may have violated KHSAA regulations. Based on what was posted in previous threads, it appears that some of the teams were predetermined prior to the open gym (Holmes team, Beechwood team, NCC team), score was kept (1st team to 7 baskets wins), and Coach Dawn was present and talked to several players throughout the session. Again, I don't see any harm in these open gyms but I can see why someone would have concern based on the description of these open gyms and possible KHSAA violations.

You sure about that? I do not think this is correct.

Their are kids playing club soccer right now that are playing on HS teams. Baseball teams are playing also. They may be under a youth league disguise but they are playing as a team with a coach not on staff. There are fall ball baseball games being played at PRP now.

Baseball is not in season and considered a spring sport. I don't think there are any hs varsity soccer kids playing select or otherwise right now, and if they are I believe they are in violation of KHSAA rules.

My understanding is...and I have looked it up before but darn if I could find the exact bylaw governing this when I just looked...but anyway athletes on a KHSAA high school level team (freshman teams to varsity) are not allowed to participate in non-KHSAA sports events during that particular sport's season. For instance, Joe Jones plays basketball for ABC County high school. Joe cannot play basketball in the local YMCA youth league or local church league during the defined basketball season. Unfortunately the KHSAA defines the basketball season as starting the first day of school, even though they can't officially practice until Oct 15th. Baseball, on the other hand, I believe doesn't "officially" start until Feb 15th, meaning hs baseball players can right now play organized fall ball if they choose to, as I understand it.

So, my understanding is, an athlete on a particular hs team cannot play in any other non-KHSAA leagues or teams during that particular sports season. This includes volleyball, softball, soccer, etc. If I'm wrong please someone show me because I would really like to know, but I believe I am correct.

The players pick their own teams, has each team had more than 10 players. Score was kept by each team, how else were they supposed to know when to leave the court. (God forbid if someone had a stopwatch counting down the time in the stands....violation!!! violation!!!!). At the NewCath open gym, Coach Dawn is merely an observer.......if a kid comes up to him he can't say hi or chat with him?????? With all the other nonsense that the KHSAA seems to turn a "blind eye" to, a group of kids getting together to improve their games seems pretty harmless to me.

There are soccer kids in Louisville that are playing club ball and a local AD told me it was okay to do both. I understand about baseball and that is my point. Why are they allowed to play during the school year before there season starts and basketball kids cannot. Why is this a rule?
