September 2, 201313 yr I tried not to handicap the game through blue-tinted glasses (predicting a 3-point UK win) but I walked out of the stadium with these observations: WKU (Petrino/Brohm, I assume) called a great game---------UK seemed vulnerable on the edges both on offense and defense but especially on defense----------UK fought back (but the missed PAT was a bummer....would have cut the lead to 8)---------UK got out-toughed (this was the most disappointing to me). I think Stoops will get the job done and the team will soon show improvement, even though the players are not what he needs or wants. To be fair, didn't Vegas open at UK -5?
September 2, 201313 yr 1 with #2 at QB. #11? I'll say it's 4. They stunk it up last night and lost by 9. They lost by 9 despite 10 points off of turnovers.

September 2, 201313 yr During the game I spent time watching the UK coaching staff. The one thing that stuck out to me was Coach Stoops and his constant back and forth between his cordinators. He was at the hip of his Cordiantors all night long. Not sure what he was adding to the offense talk, but just a little advice for him. Stay away from your cordinators and let them coach. Your OC needs to get in a groove, not sure he cant do that with you in the way.
September 3, 201313 yr Big time D coach, big time O coach weeks to prepare, you cannot lose to a Sun Belt team. Sure the players will be the scapegoat but you cannot lose this game. Sun Belt team with a head coach who is arguably Top 5 in college football.....

September 3, 201313 yr And in classic BGP fashion this thread is getting ridiculous. Point is that it was UK's first game under new coach and system and lost. Wow, really doesn't take rocket science to figure it out. Max can make the throws, and should be on the field under center. Whitlow needs to be on the field somewhere though he is a freak, and can only be a weapon. Everyone needs to settle down, UK got out coached it's okay. No need to jump ship. No recruits are going anywhere, they didn't buy into this years team I'm sure they were pitched on how they can turn this thing around. We shall see...

September 3, 201313 yr One could argue that WKU didn't bring their A game either. Could argue anything, doesn't make it valid. I believe they were out coached and wet behind the ears in the new system. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back next week.

If there were people saying to fire Stoops then I would say this thread is ridiculous but not one person has said that. UK was the favorite to win this game and they got manhandled from start to finish. I think this thread has been perfect. Especially for the UK fans who thought UK would win more than 2-4 games this season.

WKU had a bad penalty that awarded UK a first down on a drive they scored on. WKU was 2-10 on 3rd down. Yeah, that's A game football right there.

It's not like it hasn't been pointed out in this thread. If someone thinks criticism of Stoops is out of control in this thread, they'll love this post: I thought Ohio looked better getting torched by Louisville than Kentucky did against Western. Ohio looked overmatched, but Kentucky looked overwhelmed. There's a difference. I had difficulty discerning what UK was trying to accomplish at times, on both sides of the ball. On defense, they looked not just timid but actually afraid of WKU's playmakers, and they struggled to adjust to the conditions in the game. Bottom line, they looked poorly coached to me. To be cliche, Stoops has proven he can recruit the Jimmies and Joes, but after one game I don't see any proof that what he did at FSU had anything to do with his X's and O's.

I guess we have different definitions of ridiculous, but I guess it wouldn't be a message board without some of those posts. Manhandled is an interesting adjective for a nine point loss. UK was out coached and less prepared, I don't think that warrants the title of manhandled.
