September 3, 201313 yr OK. You take out their longest plays, 49 & 50 yards, and they rush for 117 yards on 30 carries for 3.9 avg. Take out WKU's too longest, 20 & 21 yards, and they rush for 175 yards on 39 carries for 4.5 avg. Does that really change things that much? Fact is big plays are part of the game. It would be different if UK rushed for 150 total with the 2 plays accounting for 99 yards. But that isn't the case. You can throw out if's all day, fact is WKU won pretty much all phases of the game, except turnovers, and they won the game. No one disagrees WKU was the better team. It was obvious from the first 2 series. Not sure why anyone is shocked by that. They had the best 2-3 offensive players and at least the best player on defense if not the top few defensive players. That said, even after dominating UK and as bad as UK played, they still had a chance to at least tie the game. IMO WKU has some work to do as well. WKU does have work to do, like protecting the football. Those two turnovers probably cost them 14 more points.
September 3, 201313 yr I still think UK should have hired Butch Jones! The Vols won 45-0! Why would Jones have come to UK over UC? I think one could argue that is a step down more than a step up.

September 3, 201313 yr UK realistically had one shot at being something special in the next 2-3 years, and that man was standing on WKU's sideline. Coach Stoops might make a fine coach, heck he might end up being better, but I would have went Petrino every time on the hire.

As many times as he rubbed salt on the wounds (as someone called it in another thread) during his blow outs of UK, turning around and hiring him would have looked strange/odd/bad/whatever. Similar to (but to a lesser degree) if UT would have tried to hire Spurrier as often as he mocked UT during his time at Florida. I almost wonder if Petrino would have taken the UK job rather than just taking a year off as his mea culpa year so as to look contrite after his bad behavior.
September 3, 201313 yr I would have liked to see more of the timing offense we saw late in the game from the start, but maybe we learned. I was at Colorado in the dark days and the first few years after Bill McCartney started there. He hardly won a game for his first four years,but turned the program around big time. It can happen at UK also. It will take more than a game.
