……………to the Greenup County Football Players what would it be?

 

To give you a little back story: Greenup County has not won a game since October 22, 2010. They currently have a 23 game losing streak.

It's really easy to stick with it when your team is having success. You guys are to be commended for keeping at it. Keep working. Stick together. Hold your heads high.

Play one play at a time. Try to win that play. Then play the next one. We have used that alot in winning games, especially early on, against teams we had never defeated previously.

 

The idea of winning ONE play against a great opponent is more manageable and believable. String enough of those together and you win. And, it eliminates the battle of trying to really convince them they can win the entire game.

 

I would ask our guys, "Do you think we can win ONE play Friday night?" They say yes. I say great, let's win one play, then try to win the next one.

I'd go along the lines of what Clyde said and tell them to go out there each day and continue to work hard in practice, to play for each other on Friday nights. Remind them that at this point they could be just a play away from changing the record books and that everything they put into their practices and games matters.

Enjoy the journey. I've won state championships I've gone winless in a season. Things are easy when things are going great but your character is built when times are tough. If you learn to be mentally tough and persevere in these tough times you will be prepared for life to dig in and fight when life says give up. You will never get the chance to strap it up with the guys you grew up with again. If you are doing things the right way then you can take pride that you are building the foundation that kids in your community won't have to make the sacrifices you made. We went from 0-11 to 12-1 at Lawrence Co in one season. It is because of the sacrifice and work ethic that was built in that 0-11 season. Do things right and like Coach B said win each play. Enjoy the journey. Win or lose you never get to strap it up again. While it might be tough you are preparing for life and paving the way for the next generation.

The only thing I would tell the kids would be to have fun.

 

As long as you are having fun and doing your best then the end result really doesn't matter. Sooner or later things will turn around. Just have fun out there.

This year is the 10 year anniversary of the game where Ludlow stopped a 36 (I think that is right) Game losing streak by beating Eminence on a last second miracle hail Mary. It was one of the most exciting moments I have ever witnessed. It had the feel of a State Championship. Losing is tough, but for the group that breaks the streak the reward will feel big.

Hate be the one that rains on the rainbow parade....but I have been involved with a few losing programs in my life. my advice. WORK HARDER and be contagious. Never once did anything get better in my experiences til one of the kids made a choice to step up, buy in, and spread the light!!!!!

This is the same thing my team was told by our head coach back in 1973. We did not lose a game that year.

Greenup County is now the holder of one record that no team wants - the longest active loosing streak in the state at 24 games.

The advice must have worked, Greenup broke their streak tonight, beating Fleming County 22-20
