What I keep saying is this... It's C.Trent's job to criticize/praise BP (and the rest of the Reds). What he said was true and what he should have said. Nothing wrong with it. However, if you're at work and some guy that is supposed to analyze the job you do says you aren't doing it as well as you could, you probably aren't going to like him. Dare I say it, you might say something to him about his analysis.

 

Was it right? No. Was it totally out of line? Not quite. He should have refrained from the insults. If he would have walked in and said:

 

"hey Dusty, this guy on the end thinks I shouldn't bat 2nd because of my OBP, the guy on the end. Give em what they want Dusty. Just bat me 8th. I know your twitter name now. I'm tired of all the crap you're talking about our team."

 

That's pretty close to what he said. Just takes out the personal remarks. Would anyone have had a problem if he phrased it like this?

I get what everyone is saying that Dusty should have said something. But honestly, the media has ripped Dusty since he's been here, especially this season. Why would Dusty stick up for the media? Those names you mentioned didn't take near as much criticism as Dusty does from the media or the city in general.

 

??? It's not about the media, it's about knowing that you are the leader and acting like one. This has nothing to do with managing decisions. It didn't matter who was arguing/making a scene/acting like a Diva. Be a leader and take charge of the situation, those other coaches sure would have. Act like you are invested, that you give a damn about what happens in your own clubhouse.

He's been asking all year for someone to step up in the clubhouse all year. Maybe he met with him after the game and said "Hey BP, I know what you were trying to do but lets clean it up a little next time."

 

Maybe Dusty should have been more "professional" with the media. But a lot of people would argue Lou should have been more professional when arguing with umpires on the field. Bob should have been more professional in his sideline demeanor and post game press conferences. You can bet your hide that if the media questioned those guys decisions in regards to their team they would (and did) come right back at them.

I am more annoyed with the Enquirer editor defending C. Trent in the paper when she should be concentrating on how to actually get a box score from a game that ends before 11 PM into the Enquirer in the morning. Or maybe not publishing the high school football story and score in Sunday's edition because the game started at that late time of 7:30 Friday night. Or maybe actually print the Prep schedules of that day's Soccer, Golf, Volleyball games that they just kind of did away with now.

For me, BP's interruption shows a lack of respect for the manager. And the manager's reaction shows a lack of control of this team.

Maybe it says more about me, but I look at as nothing more than a guy who was frustrated with the last couple of games in St. Louis and he picked C Trent to take it out on. Not appropriate, but people are making this a much bigger issue than it needs to be in my opinion.

I could see BP getting upset over an opinion but the tweet was a fact. Poor showing from BP.

It's just different now. There's a reason Lou isn't managing anymore. I doubt you see very many conversations in MLB clubhouses like Lou used to have with guys. It's definitely not control, respect or leadership.

 

I'm sure Dusty had a conversation with Phillips about what he said. And you can guarantee it didn't lead to throwing down.

But if I got personal, I'd be fired. It's just bad form.
