UK offers Duran Jefferson at Covington Holmes

Featured Replies

Jefferson is a very nice athlete both as a basketball player and a football player but I don't think he is an SEC type player. Unfortunately as long as Ky continues to recruit this level of athlete they will continue to stay at the bottom of the SEC.

I wish DJ all the best and I'm sure he will play at some level in college but honestly why would you really want to go to Ky at this time to play football.

I'd say he's 6 foot at best and 165-175ish.

Right....a mid-major, if you will. Also, Rivals has Jefferson listed as 6"1 195...What are his real measurements?

Not even close to that weight.............  He is about 155-160 soaking wet........

I believe its OK once the JR season is over.

After the signing period in the winter, which just passed. Schools can start contacting Junior athletes much more seriously.

Thanks guys. :thumb:

Not physical enough as a DB, but definitely a VERY gifted athlete.

I agree with this assessment, but look at how many said the same thing about Engelmon, and look where he's at.

Congrats DJ. :thumb:

The basketball thread had Jefferson talking UC/UK....I didn't see it happening...BUT FOOTBALL?? YES, his talents will make for a fine WR or DB !!

Its like CSHS stated, they see raw athleticism and can put the muscle on him. You cant teach someone to be an athlete but you can sure pack on the meat and teach them to be a great cover corner.

My question is.....why would he want to go to UK or UC.....? UK Football IMO is at its lowest point.... UC is struggling as well and now that they are in the Big East... the struggles will continue. If Engelmon can go to a Big Ten school and play, why cant Duran? I would wait out the offers and then he can do whatever he wants.

You can't make a comparison between Englemon and Jefferson. BE was physically bigger and stronger in high school. Also, while most think of DJ as a basketball player, I would say Englemon was definitely a football prospect over basketball.

To clear up some things, its like alot of people have amenisa from just a few years ago.

Brandet Englemon was not that much bigger if he was at all than DJ probably will be by football season next year. Brandet put on alot of muscle and weight in his red-shirt year at Michigan. People really are making me laugh acting like DJ right now isn't big enough to be recruited.

Secondly prior to Brandet's rupture of some organ, I forget the exact injury his sophmore year. Brandet was abig of a guard prospect in basketball as their was in his age level in the state of KY. He had a very good reputation through out the AAU circuit.

It said in the Cincinnati Post a while back that he weighs 170.

All this talk about why anyone would want to play at UK shows that some are not looking at the real reasons. Here are my top 5 reasons.

1. They have 2 excellent recruiting classes in a row, including 1 of the highest ranked players in the country in Micah Johnson this coming season. Those recruits see the direction the program is heading, not where it has been the past few seasons and see the future as being much brighter than the recent past.

2. Playing in the SEC

3. Getting PT earlier as opposed to later

4. Helping to rebuild the UK program. Think about the way Jamal Mashburn is remembered by UK fans as one of the primary reasons the Cats were able to rebuild the basketball program, even according to Pitino. That is a special place to have in the heart and minds of the true Cats fans.

5. According to the recruits and coaches, the current players are really buying into what the staff is doing and have done a great job at selling the direction they believe the program is heading to the new recruits. Who better to sell the current staff than the players who play for them.

I would say 165-170 is about right. I am not sure he is 6' tall, but if not, he is very close.

Exactly....Look at it like this, UK can sign @25 players a year, of those 25 only a handful at this point would be considered "SEC Caliber" the rest are pretty good athletes or have potential plus you have to look at the politics involved as well. Offering a NKY kid early is politicly correct for UKs staff.

If you want to question anything it should be his "Football heart and desire" not his size or athletic ability at the SEC level.
