Mayfield was up 37-14 and Ft Campbell scored with about 4:00 minutes left in the game. Both teams played well. Mayfields OL was the biggest difference. Not sure what Jake Guhys final stats were, but, he was 15 of 18 for 286 yds and 4 TDs in the 1st half alone. Mills had about 100 yds rushing, also. Mayfield scored on its 1st play from scrimmage to start the game and led thruout, but, never could really put the Falcons away. Ft Campbell had some very nice athletes and will be solid this year. The Cards aren't quite as fast as last year, but, are deeper than they've been in a long time, especially at WR and in the trenches. Very solid..

Nice win for Mayfield. About what I expected. Close, good challenge, but Mayfield with the solid win.

Good win for the cardinals against a very fast team. I don't think we will face any team this year with this much speed outside of maybe Paducah Tilghman. The cardinals are gonna have to come up with a couple of linebackers though, they are just not getting the job done.

There was a very strange play that occurred in this game that most Mf fans were unsure of exactly what it was. Mf was driving deep into FC territory when QB Guhy drops back to pass and the ball was caught by a FC player who returned the ball to around midfield before being tackled. We were later told that was called an interception. Was real strange and after thinking about it for a long while I recalled seeing one of those weird plays once in the first game last season.

Mf started off with a td strike on the first play of the game then held FC to a couple of first downs and forced tem to punt. The Cards then drove deep into FC territory where the drive stalled and the Cards settled for a field goal with 4:37 to go in the first quarter by their back up kicker due to the starter being out tonight with a minor injury. Mf then kicked off and FC set up shop at their won 28. On the first play from scrimmage, the FC back, Luke who is being billed as one of the best ever at FC, broke loose on a awesome 78 yard TD run. Mayfield took the kickoff and quickly mounted a TD drive capped off by a 45 yard TD pass with 11:51 to go in the 2nd quarter making the score 17-7. The Cards would again mount a scoring dive with 5:12 to go in the 2nd Quarter making the score 23-7 after a missed PAT. FC then mounted a nice drive capped off with a 34 yard TD pass with 3:28 to go in the 2nd Quarter making the score Mf 23 FC 14. FC's only mistake was scoring to quickly as Guhy quickly engineered a Dan Marino like hurray up drive covering 72 yards in 7 plays making the score 30-14 at the half.

 

The Cards opened the 3rd quarter by holding FC to 3 and out and once Mf got the ball they changed philosophies going with heavy dosage of the run. The 3rd Q ended quickly with the Cards choosing to stay mostly on the ground

 

The Cards again hit pay dirt on a 34 yard TF pass with 7:45 left in the game making the score 37-14. FC then had a huge kickoff return that set up a score making it Mayfield 37-21 and this would be the final

Mayfield's Guhy had not had a pick in exactly 1 year. he threw 37 tds and 1 int and a gazillion yards

 

I was so tired from the drive back after the game I was not posting very clearly, should have been more clear but at least I got my own joke

Solid win against against a solid team. Mayfield's line is impressive and I don't see a 1A team that can come even close to it. The offense looked like it was clicking most of the time and while the runners ran hard, we don't have an explosive running back. I saw lot's of missed tackles on defense and the linebackers have to fill the holes better and get tougher. Since this was my first time seeing this team, I see team that should get better on the defensive side of the ball and this team will be tough to beat. The offense will keep us in just about any game but we all know defense wins games so that's where they have to get better.
