They are seperated in other states for a reason, and should be in Kentucky. Private Class A schools dominate track and cross country, won baseball and footbal champ. last year, so you tell me do you think they might have a edge.

This is seriously the most proposterous post I have ever read. Truly a slap in the face to Newport Central Catholic and Bishop Brossart who I can vouch only select students from their respective feeder schools. Derrick Rhoden is the only public school product I can think of that played basketball for Brossart, and he never lived up to his 7 foot hype. Growing up in the Brossart system I found it so admirable how hard the kids worked and how good our coaches were (schlarman,code). To say this definitly has no merit....We saw how bad some of these schools are (Brossart 62 Bourborville 29), a All A Public tournament would feature abunch of teams that could never compete on a larger level and would also lead to alot more 62-29 blow outs...BG Green and Mustangs, they just don't get it....Good Luck Mustangs Saturday 4:30..Ill be at the Louisville Notre Dame game...wish i could be there

I'm with bball king. He is on the money with the above statements. I played my High School career with the likes of Cov Cath, and could we compete..NO WAY. Private Schools do have an advantage! :mad:

 

 

Unless you played in the late 1960's, when have the 9th Region public schools been unable to compete or beat CovCath?

The Brossart Mustangs Boys Varsity/JV Basketball Program is made up of seventeen, home grown athletes who each came from one of our six district feeder parishes. There is not a recruit, move-in, or transfer among them.

 

Each played in the Campbell County Parochial Basketball League when they were in grade school.

 

Period!

I'm glad to hear that. Unfortunately OCHS can't say the same. I'm not saying that they are recruiting, but they have found some players from other school systems find their way onto the team. Most notably the point guard.

I knew this would be brought up! Every single year. I think it is really funny that everyone says all private schools can recruit. The truth is, they can. They are allowed to give out pamphlets and information to kids that are in THEIR FEEDER DISTRICT. I'm not sure how OCath does things, but I know Brossart has 5 or 6 feeder schools in their district, three out of the five FEEDER SCHOOLS have less than 35 total students in their eighth grade class. NCC runs into pretty much the same scenario.

I really don't think you can bring up the recruiting issue against these two (Broosart & NCC), they fight against each other to get the same kids. As a matter of fact, when I was at Brossart (5 years ago) there was not one student in the school from outside Brossart's FEEDER DISTRICT. Broosart's basketball team presently has no one on that team from outside the FEEDER DISTRICT.

 

So when you guys go on knocking private schools, just realize, some of them do things the right way! This thread is weak, especially if your going to bring it up and try to relate it to 2 of these Private schools in the ALL A State.

 

Also, many of these posters are posting that private schools have a LARGE ADVANTAGE, but they aren't stating what these LARGE ADVANTAGES are. So I ask, what LARGE ADVANTAGES do Brossart and NCC have when they are competing against each other for some of the same kids? And don't have one kid from outside of their feeder district?

I wish they would do away with the "All A" period. Many regions have, what, 4 or 5 "A" teams? Big deal. If you want a championship, win the real one.

I think you mean 2 of 4 - Monroe County and Paintsville are public schools. Only St. Mary's and Rose Hill are private.

No there should not be a separate All A for private and public. Most of the private schools are small and this is not a big deal. I'm sure that when you look at the Sweet Sixteen pairings, the privates won't make up a big percentage!

The advantage is in the preparation that the private grade schools give their student/athletes. Brossart and NCC combined have a total of about 10-12 feeder parishes that they draw students from. The combined population of which is much smaller than the population that attends the public middle schools that feed the public high schools in Campbell Co, Highlands, Newport, Bellevue and Dayton. However, each of these grade schools have very well run athletic programs and develop their players from the third grade on. Some of these grade schools have less than 100 students total in grades 1-8 yet they still field teams and develop players.

 

When these students come together at the high school level their is tremendous competition for limited spots on the high school teams and the talent runs deep.

 

There is no comparison between the private grade school athletics and the public grade school programs.

 

Neither of these two teams recruit their athletes! Neither team has a player that is from out of district or that is a product of public middle schools.

And since Mustang spoke of Bishop Brossart, Covington Catholic's team is full of kids from feeder schools with the exception of one player on the JV team. In district kids who played in the CovCath grade school league in 8th grade.

 

To be fair, not every school from the CCH Grade school league is a feeder school for Covington Catholic.

No. because under that scenario it would be nothing more than law of averages (if 3/4 of the All A schools are public then it would only make sense that 3/4 of the teams in the final four would be public right?), so that makes me wonder how the private schools are consistently defying the odds and the law of averages????
