February 3, 200620 yr Here is a new item that seems under the radar screen: From Courier-Journal 2/1 article: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060201/SPORTS05/602010471 What about financial aid? The proposal generally would write existing procedures into the KHSAA bylaws. A key provision requires that only a student's immediate family can pay for his or her financial obligation at a non-public school. So you better be in the right school by 6th grade and you better have all the monies you are going to need because you can not rely on other family members. Wouldn't this require KHSAA audit every family in private schools?

February 3, 200620 yr I really don't care who pays a kids tuition just as long as they are made to pay it period and not given a break because of any apparent skills that the child may have.

February 3, 200620 yr Maybe we should wait for an "Immediate Family" definition. It that means Grandma and Uncle Bob can pay tuition it is not a big deal. My definition has always been mom and dad.
February 4, 200620 yr I really don't care who pays a kids tuition just as long as they are made to pay it period and not given a break because of any apparent skills that the child may have. I totally agree. I dont care how pays the kids education as long as it is paid period.
February 4, 200620 yr I just want to know what they're going to do when these rules have zero impact on the situation and the private schools still kick the public schools buts. I mean, the private schools that are kicking peoples buts now, generally don't have freshman or sophmores starting varsity. So making a kid sit two years that he isn't going to play anyway, what does that do? These rules will hurt publics more than private.
February 4, 200620 yr For that level playing field, shouldn't we also make sure that the immediate family is paying the costs for an athlete to attend a public school? If you don't pay property taxes to the applicable school or if you don't pay income taxes that are funneled into the public schools, your kid should be excluded unless, of course, you pay an appropriate amount to cover the "tuition". The immediate family proposal is ridiculous since the KHSAA would never know who handed the money to the immediate family member to pass on to the school. In formulating these "edicts", I believe the rule of thumb should be that what is required of the privates should be required of the publics. Otherwise, all that is being done is extending "affirmative action" through "entitlements" (welfare) to the publics to help them compete. It is similar to giving extra bonus points to certain applicants for jobs because, without them, they cannot compete for the jobs (championships).
February 5, 200620 yr What is new about this? The KHSAA already has a provision that says private school tuition must be paid for by the family. What's new?

I mean, the private schools that are kicking peoples buts now, generally don't have freshman or sophmores starting varsity. So making a kid sit two years that he isn't going to play anyway, what does that do? These rules will hurt publics more than private. This is the the kicker. I just want to play Devil advocate. Then why all the up roar, If the kids that are going to private schools will still be going there and winning then why are the privates so upset. I mean you are getting the kids already (at T and X) and they know that they wont play untill they are at least a jr. So it wont hurt. So why fight it. make peace and play. Remember it wont hurt the schools with low enrollment, So Why fight it. Could it be because everyone knows that if they had to stay with in feeder school to draw from then they might not get the "studs" that they need to win the big one? What Would every one say if the rules get passed (which they wont) but if they do and in a couple of years X and T arnt winning every champ. they are just like every other school that have to worry about talent in certain postions. I dont think anything will happen but WHAT IF IT DID AND IT WORKED AND EVFERYONE WAS IN THE THICK OF THINGS. Would that mean there WAS a problem and an unfair advantage? Of course, All private school supporters are going to say NO, and give the same old reason's but WHAT IF.
February 6, 200620 yr At times, this is how I feel: The public schools' idea of "fair" is public schools winning championships. The private schools' idea of "fair" is ensuring that all kids have the opportunity to attend and participate in extracurricular activities at their schools.

To add to that, the public schools idea of "unfair" is private schools' ensuring that all kids have the opportunity to attend and participate in extracurricular activities at their schools.
