Lebron finally won a title last year. This season is arguably his finest season as a pro. If the Heat lose this season in the Finals it will be the third time Lebron hasn't won a title while making it to the Finals. MJ never lost 3. Hell, MJ never lost in the Finals. Kobe has only lost twice in the Finals in his 7 trips to the Finals. Does that diminish Lebron's legacy if the Heat don't win the title this year?

It depends on what your thoughts of his legacy currently are. I guess it will, but not a great deal in my eye's because I don't think he's as good as the other two mentioned. Maybe close to as good as Kobe but I dunno that's for another thread.

Yes, though I still think they will manage to win.

 

To me his "legacy" was diminished with the Dallas performance. I get that in his first trip he was younger and not surrounded by elite talent, but in 2011 - his 8th NBA season - he completely shrunk in the moment against an inferior opponent. Nothing will ever repair that from my vantage.

I believe LeBron is the greatest physical talent in NBA history. His mental make-up is just different from the above mentioned. You will hear him sometimes talk as if he has this killer instinctual mentality, but that is just not who he is. You do not develop that over time, you either have it or you do not. I think a lot of that is just to psyche himself in to believing he is something he is not and satisfying the masses. His accolades and accomplishments will always come because he is just physically superior to his opposition.

I think his individual play will be a huge part of his legacy, but overall it will be well behind others because of Final's performance (Not to say that the Heat won't win it this year). The most damage to his legacy was "The Decision" and not winning it against Dallas.

We've seen glimpses of his killer instinct but he definitely doesn't have it 24/7 like Kobe and Mike do and for me that is a problem. He should be in Game 6 in Boston mode every playoff game IMO.

If he doesn't win it this year, he'll have no legacy to speak of IMO.

 

I can't see this Miami team, as currently constructed, making the Finals again after this season, so if he stays in Miami, he may end his career with just the one ring....One ring does not a legacy make.

Which is crazy. He could have made more money elsewhere. Maybe it was all the hoopla surrounding "the decision" and not the choice itself that turned off so many people.

Here is the difference between LeBron and other greats...IF sports did not exist Kobe and MJ probably are probably serial killers, LeBron would be the tall kid that helps people reach stuff on the top shelf in the library. As mentioned he is wired differently.

I think the Hoopla had a lot to do with it too. Perhaps it was being "The Chosen One" then not delivering? I think a lot of people will go back and look at that point and the hoopla around it to define his legacy.

Especially this season. The Heat were getting 5-21 odds a couple weeks ago to win the title. The Eastern Conference should have been a cakewalk with the two best teams they played not having their best players. They have been on cruise control for two months leading up to the Pacers' series which is why I do not want to hear about them being tired.
