How many Frosh does NCC project to have?

I'm surprised NKYfootballfan91 was commented on this.

How would I know? Haven't seen a game or practice yet, I'm just an educated fan of NKY football.

I think you are right on when it comes to Football but I believe you are short changing the Education opportunities that Highlands offers that NewCath just can't afford to offer, unless of course we are speaking of Religious opportunities.

This is most probably is the real reason parents choose Highlands over NewCath, not football. JMO

Being a NewCath grad, I hated Highlands for a little over 2 decades.

Being a father...

-One of the best school districts in the state and region.

-Incredible educational opportunities.

-Outstanding extracurricular programs (non-athletic)

-Athletics - tough to beat the Birds programs, dedication of the coaching staffs, and the loyalty & support of the community the is borderline psychotic. **NOT just football

PLUS, the low low cost of the tax dollars I'm going to pay anyway!

Absolutely a no brainer!

It's actually hard to believe that people within the district boundaries send their kids elsewhere.

I can believe it given the religious education aspect. Still a very strong motivator for many families which I think is great.

When I was a Frosh at Bellevue in 1985 we only had 12 kids on the team (Dirty Dozen) was our nickname. It was really crazy that we had kids to fill all positions and the one kid who stood on the sideline was 5'2 110 lbs and subbed in at WR and CB. We actually defeated Beechwood that year in the championship game over at Beechwood after losing to them twice during the season by a TD each time. We had a really nice team that year and our TE was a stud 6'3 210 lb 8th grader.

I dont know how you can field a team with 10 players unless they dip down and get a few really good 8th graders in the feeder schools.

Can't disagree with that

I didn't want to dive into that. I received an excellent education at NewCath. For the majority of parents it comes down to free w/ a lot more AP courses, or not free, but deeper religious study. Since this was a football thread, I used football as a reason. Let's face it, parents with good football players aren't moving into the district just for the average ACT score.

St Joe isn't considered a feeder school for Newcath, they are suppose to go to Brossart. Many of the St Joe kids that go to Covcath live up on the hill in Wilder. It seems as though "feeder school" boundary's are only questioned when the kids from Taylor Mill would think about coming to NewCath, but for some reason the super let's the Campbell Co. contingent cross the river. Is he biased? You don't see to many open house signs in Taylor Mill for NCC,but you sure do see plenty of Covcath signs in Wilder. Anyway, its probably more of an argument for Brossart than Newcath when it come to feeder schools. From what I know the kids that go to Covcath aren' t playing football anyway, so it doesn't matter from that standpoint.

I realize that. However, amongst athletes, St. Joes is split evenly b/n NewCath and Brossart in all sports except those who want to play football. The VAST majority go to NewCath. Additionally, with the subdivisions in Wilder being loser to NewCath than Brossart, many of the families send their kids from St. Joes to the Hill. So, if kids from Wilder cross the river, it may not "officially" affect NewCath from a feeder perspective, but it certainly affects NewCath.

We had a split Sophomore/Freshman team. We practiced half line by ourselves, and then on game day, the Sophomores who did not play much JV would be rotated in. It wasn't ideal, but we got to play 6 games more than we would have.

How much has the coaching changes at the high school effected the numbers? I know a few MS kids that have went to Cov Cath, Brossart, Holy Cross, Campbell Co, Highlands and such because of the changes.

Are you talking about Eviston moving on or are you talking about the frosh coaching?

Both, some dont like change, even if change is in house.

This has nothing to do w/ Wagner. He's been the D coordinator for the past 13 years. Nothing is going to change. This has to do w/ economy and enrollment cycles. Next year we could see a huge class, and everything is right in the world again.

I don't know how or why you would think HHS offers better educational opportunities than NCC. How many HHS kids have scored a perfect 36 on their act recently? I don't believe parents send their kids to HHS over NCC for academics. For the majority of the athletes, they are at the school they are at for athletics.

Truth is, I have great respect for what HHS has done on the football field. My problem lies with the arrogance of he parents and fans. God forbid someone have an opinion that differs from yours.....

HHS parents that live within the district lines gripe and moan because their kid sits the bench behind kids that don't live in the ft Thomas district. I would not like it either. I'm guessing they would like it even less if their kid played and HHS was 2-8 instead of state champs.

I would say this, if you want to win football games, you can't go wrong with either school. The difference is, you got a legitimate chance to play early in your high school years at NCC. More than likely, you may not play until your a senior at HHS. Before you HHS fans fly off the handle, I realize a few kids play early at HHS, the Harris kid for example recently. He's a prime example of a kid that doesn't live in the district and plays in front of kids that do. His brother went to ncc.

everyone knows NCC is a private school, so is HHS. They are just listed as "public".

Can't seem to find a single accurate statement here. Whenever we here the tired old insult of "arrogance"we feel a little more thankful for the hard work and sacrifices that have made Highlands the academic leader that it is. Oh, and we have a pretty good football team too.

Your first comment is so inaccurate that it makes reading the rest of your post a waste of time.

NCC is a very good school, but they do not have the resources to offer the opportunities that Highlands does. HHS is nationally recognized for its academic offerings and student achievements.

BTW, HHS has the same number of students that scored a perfect 36 on the ACT as NCC. Exactly one each. Congrats to both Maddie Gates (HHS) and Nathan Grosser (NCC). Grosser is a Ft Thomas resident that I am very confident in saying that he and his parents chose for him to attend NCC for the religious aspect of the education..

I agree with mex. This isn't a new issue this year. The freshman numbers have been low at NCC the last 3 years. Last year they had to bring a sophomore or two down to field a freshman team in some games.
