How many Frosh does NCC project to have?

Featured Replies

I agree with mex. This isn't a new issue this year. The freshman numbers have been low at NCC the last 3 years. Last year they had to bring a sophomore or two down to field a freshman team in some games.

Coaching changes didnt just happen this year fellas, duh!

So are you trying to say that the frosh coaches are the issue here?

I don't know how or why you would think HHS offers better educational opportunities than NCC. How many HHS kids have scored a perfect 36 on their act recently? I don't believe parents send their kids to HHS over NCC for academics. For the majority of the athletes, they are at the school they are at for athletics.

Truth is, I have great respect for what HHS has done on the football field. My problem lies with the arrogance of he parents and fans. God forbid someone have an opinion that differs from yours.....

HHS parents that live within the district lines gripe and moan because their kid sits the bench behind kids that don't live in the ft Thomas district. I would not like it either. I'm guessing they would like it even less if their kid played and HHS was 2-8 instead of state champs.

I would say this, if you want to win football games, you can't go wrong with either school. The difference is, you got a legitimate chance to play early in your high school years at NCC. More than likely, you may not play until your a senior at HHS. Before you HHS fans fly off the handle, I realize a few kids play early at HHS, the Harris kid for example recently. He's a prime example of a kid that doesn't live in the district and plays in front of kids that do. His brother went to ncc.

everyone knows NCC is a private school, so is HHS. They are just listed as "public".

Yousa! Some very inaccurate statements here. I'll take any deserved arrogance from HHS fans over your jealousy any day. You are just wrong on so many things. HHS and Beechwood are consistently nationally ranked in all areas of academics. That includes ACT scores. While I'm sure NCC does a great job, I can assure you that parents send their kids to HHS for Academic reasons as much as, or more than Athletic ones. I know in the case of Beechwood, there are as many Academic-only tuition students as there are Atheltically motivated ones. I assume its very similar for Highlands.

NCC is just in a downturn due to economy. Hopefully they will recover. It gets more and more difficult to attract students to parochial schools. Especially when there are great alternatives that do not come with high tuition costs. Let's face it, the 30K to 50K for 12 year education is huge hurdle to overcome for most families. So doing it simply for Religious reasons is going away. If I'm going to pay tuition, its going to be for Academic reasons.

NCC needs to study what CCH is doing right to draw students in. Despite the economy and higher tuition costs, the CCH enrollment seems to skyrocket year after year. Living in the community, I see their efforts all the time. They are constantly pushing for enrollment. Probably most importantly, their Alumni is an a very active recruiting machine.

Your comment about HHS being "Private" is just ignorance, jealousy or more than likely, both.

Hasnt NCC had 3 Head coaches in the last 4 years or so?

I honestly do not know. Who have the coaches been over the last 4 years. We all know who the current coach is, but I am not real sure when he started. Prior to that I have no information.

Hasnt NCC had 3 Head coaches in the last 4 years or so?

So are you saying NCC icon Eddie Eviston becoming head coach and winning two state championships in three years has led to low turnouts in the freshman numbers?

3 Perfect ACT scores at Campbell County High School, Jenna Garofolo, Andrew Perrin and Jared Wittrock. So the County may have more to offer academically than what many people want to acknowledge. So if you're talking education possibilities and opportunities, some may be choosing Campbell County. Football is looking up as well!

781 of 1.66 million students earned a composite score of 36 in 2012

I think we have pinned this to coaching changes at the frosh level.

Whoa!!!

Is that correct about bringing a Soph or 2 down?.....That might explain a few things to me if true. Who did they bring down and do you know this for a fact? Is this a normal practice at smaller schools normally or was it an attempt to equal the playing field. I find it hard to believe that a program like NCC would have to bring kids down to field a team. I would think they might be able to bring a few 8th graders up 1st rather than dressing down.

Just curious?????

That's not a fair statement. I think NCC's Frosh may have the best staff in the state of Ky. At the least they are the most "Qualified"....They should be fielding 25-30 players a year and beating the crap out if teams...Period!!!

Is there such a thing as being a "qualified crap beater upper"? LOL

This doesn't bother me as a fan. I understand NewCath's financial struggles, enrollment drops, etc better than anyone and if they need to bring a couple or more Soph down to field a team to play a Frosh game then so be it.

I don't think there is any rule saying they can't other then maybe the ole "gentlemans agreement". I doubt the KHSAA worries about this stuff.

I agree. This doesn't bother me at all. If NCC has to bring down sophomores to play freshman then they are bringing down kids that wouldn't get a shot at playing JV ball. They do it right, they would never bring down a stud sophomore to win a freshman title. If that was the case then it would be wrong. I think their intent was to be able to field a freshman team and keep kids playing instead of 10 freshman sitting on the sidelines of a JV game and never seeing the field.

Yeah ok...I now see your point and it makes perfect sense. I guess I would do the same thing...

Two things, since I played on a split Frosh/Sophomore team as a Freshman. 1. NewCath isn't eligible to win Frosh championships if the make a Frosh/Soph team. 2. You are correct that the sole intent of it, if they go that route, is to get more game time for both the Frosh, and the sophomores who aren't playing very much on JV. This is about player development, not being the best 9th grade team Kentucky has ever seen. My Freshman year, we beat Highlands pretty bad w/ a couple of Sophs. Our Senior year, they were beating us 35-0 at half time. Frosh wins mean little next to depth in classes and player development.
