How many Frosh does NCC project to have?

Featured Replies

New Cath may be heading to 1A the next time they do reclassification.

Less than 100; assume 50 boys; 50 x 4 classes = 200 boys.

That is right at the cut off between 1A and 2A. As a Beechwood fan, I can honestly say it would be awesome to have NCC back in 1A. That rivalry will ramp back up again to where it was 4-5 years ago.

Makes sense. Owensboro Catholic numbers have been dropping too. Their Middle School only had 16 8th graders last year. They only had 10 Freshmen play last year.

How many kids are in the feeder schools these days? I know St. Mary's in Alexandria only had 1 or 2 boys in their 8th grade class.

I thought Beechwood was expected to move to 2A in the next alignment.

That is what I've heard as well.

That was an exception. Most of the boys in this class left after 6th grade to attend CCMS for different reasons.

Why are they playing in the All "A" competition if they are 2A? Does All "A" include both single and double A levels?

There are a few reasons.

A. For the Ft. Thomas crew, it is either go to Highlands for free, and play for the top program in the area or pay tuition and play for one of the top programs in the area. Can't speak for the Alexandria contingent.

B. It is a cyclical thing. Numbers will fluctuate. If you can keep 10 Freshman for four years and some kids come from soccer (WRs and such) like has happened in the past, you get a good core of 13-14 seniors. That's good for AA.

Those are two of the biggest reasons.

I think you are right on when it comes to Football but I believe you are short changing the Education opportunities that Highlands offers that NewCath just can't afford to offer, unless of course we are speaking of Religious opportunities.

This is most probably is the real reason parents choose Highlands over NewCath, not football. JMO

All A basketball/baseball I assume you are asking about has nothing to do with 6 class football. Think along the lines of Track with 3 classes. NCC is A in Track.

10 is lpw but not that low of a number. Remember the 2000 and 2001 teams might have had 10 Seniors and the other state finals teams probably had about 15. Didn't they only have 6 or 7 Seniors in 2008 or 2009? Add in that Lloyd, Newport, and Holy Cross did not have Frosh teams at all last year and with maybe 40 Frosh boys total and fielding Soccer teams it is not surprising.

That sure didn't help.

St Joe isn't considered a feeder school for Newcath, they are suppose to go to Brossart. Many of the St Joe kids that go to Covcath live up on the hill in Wilder. It seems as though "feeder school" boundary's are only questioned when the kids from Taylor Mill would think about coming to NewCath, but for some reason the super let's the Campbell Co. contingent cross the river. Is he biased? You don't see to many open house signs in Taylor Mill for NCC,but you sure do see plenty of Covcath signs in Wilder. Anyway, its probably more of an argument for Brossart than Newcath when it come to feeder schools. From what I know the kids that go to Covcath aren' t playing football anyway, so it doesn't matter from that standpoint.

10 may not be low as seniors, but this is the freshmen team. The numbers will only get lower as they progress through high school.

It may not be surprising, but not good for the future competitiveness of the program.

How much has the coaching changes at the high school effected the numbers? I know a few MS kids that have went to Cov Cath, Brossart, Holy Cross, Campbell Co, Highlands and such because of the changes.

Please elaborate.
