Smith is a DB for the west, if there were two picks I am thinking he had one of them? Played for Scott and going to play at Thomas More.

Ugly first half. I believe East threw 7 INTs in first half. 6 by CovCath QB, 1 by Campbell Co QB. 2 of them were returned for TDs. West threw 1 INT and had 1 fumble that was returned for a TD. Game delayed maybe 15-20 minutes when official suffered leg injury and had to be taken from field.

 

I left at halftime to watch Heat game. As long as kids have fun and stay injury free its all good.

I'm glad this game is back. I played after high school and was an awesome experience. Unfortunately the year I played the coaching staff took to playing the starters for 3 quarters of the game which put a damper of the work we up in. Not to mention we still got killed by the other team playing every player on their roster.

It was a fun game tonight, although Kozerski seemed to want Pouncy involved on every offensive play, the West still dominated with game MVP going to Tyler Morris.

Nick Kennedy also had a great game on Defense as well as Swanson for the west.

It was great to see the boys play one last game beofre moving on to college.

It was beautiful football weather at Dixie Heights as the West All Stars get the win over the East. The West defense controlled the game getting a number of interceptions, 2 of which were returned for touchdowns.

Simon Kenton's Swanson got burned on the first completed pass of the game by Cov Cath's Blake Bir, but Swanson turned the tables on the next play when they tried him again. He picked off the Bir pass and returned it for the game's first score. That set the tone as the West had interception after interception. I know I will miss someone but here are the interceptions I can remember - 2 by Swanson; 2 by Ryle's Nick Kennedy; 2 by Ryle's Daniel Osborne; one by either Jordan or Jacob Smith of Scott and one other one that I can't recall the player. The most impressive of those was Nick Kennedy's. He showed everyone that he is the fastest player in N. Ky when he returned the interception all the way across the field and just ran right by everyone into the end zone. The speed he showed on that play was something to see.

Player of the game for the West was QB Tyler Morris of Cooper. He was incredible all night scrambling and making big play after big play on offense. He was impressive hitting the seam pass and the quick turn in. Morris was very impressive. Holy Cross' Vinny Pangallo was the target of a number of those passes. That was nice to see Pangallo have that game after breaking his ankle in the regular season versus Beechwood and missing the rest of the season.

Both teams did a good job getting everyone equal playing time. The West had 3 different offensive lines and rotated those lines each series. They were doing the same with linebackers and the defensive line. The East also was rotating their players. The exception to that was at QB where Morris and Bir took nearly all the snaps.

It was a very good turnout and well run game. Congratulations to the coaches on making this happen and to all the players who participated. Hopefully this puts the game on solid footing and it is held annually from here forward. It was a fun night.

Congrats to Cooper's Tyler Morris. I didn't make it out to watch but it sounds like he had a great game, which doesn't surprise me. I've said it before, but if Tyler had the gift of being over six feet tall he would of had plenty of higher college offers. I look for him to do well at Thomas More as he is just a winner!!

This is why sometimes if a kid is already committed to a college to continue his playing career he should sit these types of games out.

QB's can and most always will be the focus of All Star games and if he is on like the Cooper kid then he looks like a hero but when he is out of sync and off like the other kid then its just plain ugly...

You are entitled to your opinion but.... BOO! No one can predict what would occur Thursday night but for you as an adult, to say a kid should not participate in a game because the potential to fail is bologna..

Bir did not look good but either did his receivers. Let's not put all the blame on Blake for those picks. I commend him for showing up and giving it his best, even on an off night. Would have liked to see Tyler take more snaps to take some pressure off though. May have been a good idea to give him a series or two off and let big Tyler 'run' the offense.

NKY Bandit ... you make a good point. It appeared to me that the West defensive backs outplayed the East receivers and that was a big part of all the interceptions. The West DB's won the one on one battles against the East receivers all night long and that made it difficult for Bir. Bir also was very up and down in the game. He had some throws that he missed badly. He had several very nice throws that were dropped. Bir's best throws were on the long ball attempts. Bir threw very little in the middle of the field and the West seemed to be expecting him to throw those sideline passes like he did all year for the Colonels. The West DB's played those passes well and the East team didn't adjust and look to throw more in the middle of the field. The West defense all around was very impressive. The defensive line got pressure on the QB with little blitzing. The linebackers covered sideline to sideline. The DB's dominated. The West defense shut out the East offense. The East team's only score was on a fumble return for a TD. I believe it was Holmes' Mikkaele Scruggs who returned that ball for the TD.

 

On the other side, the East defense played pretty well, but Tyler Morris was deadly in his timing on the 10 yard turn in pass to the slot receiver and his scrambling kept the ball in the West team's possession when he was under pressure. Put a QB who isn't as good scrambling as Morris, and this game would have been much closer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the score was 45-7. Swanson and Kennedy's pick sixes, Nussbaum had 2 short scoring runs, a field goal, Huesman's TD catch and the run by Morris at the end

But as for the 9 INTs thrown by the East side, you have to realize they practiced Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Three days was all the practice they had as a unit to get ready. I'm sure they weren't on the same page at all times. The game isn't about winners/losers (no official stats are even kept) but about giving the kids another chance to get on the field.

Nausbaum had one scoring play from the one yard line after a int was ran back to the one yard line. Some one was keeping stats and said that the west had 70 total yards at the half and had 24 points. Score was 24 -7 in the 4th and the west scored in a couple late in the 4th. Hard to get timing down between QB and WR in 3 days.
