My guess is Highlands will not have anyone playing but I may be wrong.

 

A kid has to just be obsessed with the game, has some unfinished business, or is still trying to catch a coaches eye late in the recruiting season to play in this game imo.

 

As Clyde stated, I would advise any kid playing college to forgo this game and FWIW most if not all colleges are done recruiting at this point.

 

If the sponsors of this game or the fans of this game want to really see it become a "must play" event then they need to play it before Xmas imo.

In 1994, Sean Alexander played in this game and he went on to be an NFL MVP. It is the elitist, "I am too good to play in this game is what has led to it's demise over the years." I can definitely understand a D1 kid choosing not to play, but small college kids should and mostly will play.

 

Last I checked, Highlands has only 1 player from this years graduating class playing any college football at any level. Why in the heck wouldn't all of the other kids from Highlands want the chance to strap on the equipment and play this great game one last time?

 

Football is unique from every other sport. Once a player's career is over, they will never really have a chance to play tackle football again. There are many pick up basketball leagues, adult baseball/softball leagues, and flag football leagues, but it is rare to be able to play tackle football again in equipment.

 

Hopefully the young men participating will enjoy and take advantage of this opportunity!

 

Agreed. I think it's hard for alot of kids to pass up the chance to lace them up one more time. It'll be interesting to see how many kids are in shape and ready to play. Hopefully the cheeseburger/couch monster hasn't gotten the best of them.

I have seen some of the Highlands kids since season's end and alot of them have dumped their football weight which is very common for kids at Highlands once the 2nd week of December comes and goes.:thumb:

The only reason to not accept the opportunity to play in the all-star game is lack of desire. There have been several D1 players strap on the equipment once they have signed their scholarship. It's a great opportunity to play along side some of your rivals from the previous seasons and go compete one last time. The NKY all-star game was the last game i played and i have many memories and stories from those two short weeks of practice/game. And btw, i do believe they need more than 1 week to make this game anything. 3-5 days of practice is not enough...

Some D1 schools do not want their signees playing in All-Star games and some do not mind and some encourage it.

Whitford has dropped 40 plus and could pass for a Tight end these days at 6'3 245lbs.

 

I havent seen many of the other kids but I do know my son works out with Schutte and Poston. They have been hitting it hard and are getting strong.

Just heard that Jake Elbert from Brossart was asked to play (probably not) or at least be a part of the activities. He was leading NKY in rushing through week 4 and then tore his ACL against NCC.

 

Good gesture on the East coaches for allowing him to be part of the team even though he likely will not get in the game as he recovers.

Still no sign of the rosters for this event. Is there a web site that may have more detail?

Today is the first day of practice for the all star teams. Yesterday they had a meet and greet dinner and players were invited to attend the Florence Freedom game. The game is Thursday night June 6 at Dixie. As others have mentioned, it would be nice to at least see the rosters. Are those available anywhere?

After a one-year hiatus, the 30th edition of the annual Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association (NKFCA) East-West All-Star Game returns as part of a new week-long celebration of the area’s top high school football seniors.

 

The inaugural June 2-6 Snappy Tomato Pizza Northern Kentucky All-Star Week presented by NovaCare/UC Health, which includes a number of special events for participants, culminates with select seniors from 20 schools competing against each other in the East-West Game.

 

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, at Dixie Heights High School.

I was told Highlands will not be participating in the game. Can anyone confirm that?
